The mythology has also been tied directly to the show’s core story, with a later reveal confirming that a Manhunter was responsible for killing Abin Sur, the original bearer of Hal Jordan’s ring. Martian Manhunter Connection Theories

Given the shared name, it makes sense that so many fans immediately jumped to Martian Manhunter theories. Comic book lore has previously revealed that the robotic Manhunters actually took their name, and much of their underlying technology, from an ancient Martian civilization that once protected their homeworld, a lineage closely tied to J’onn J’onzz’s own origins.

Despite that overlap, Martian Manhunter is not one of the Manhunters appearing in ‘Lanterns,’ and no casting or appearance for the character has been confirmed anywhere connected to the series. If the show stays loyal to DC Comics lore, the robotic Manhunters and the shapeshifting hero J’onn J’onzz are simply two different concepts that happen to share a title.
