‘Lanterns’ Soar: Stunt Coordinator Justin Reiner Reveals How Hal Jordan and John Stewart Fly in the Show

Lanterns is one of the most exciting upcoming superhero shows. It is based on the Green Lantern comic book characters and will focus on Hal Jordan and John Stewart. The show will follow the two heroes as they work together to solve a murder mystery on Earth. Inspired by shows like True Detective and Slow Horses, Lanterns will have a dark and serious tone.

The series is part of the new DC Universe, also known as the DCU, and will be the third show in this new connected world. Kyle Chandler plays Hal Jordan, and Aaron Pierre plays John Stewart.

Not much is known about the plot currently, and we don’t have much in terms of set leaks, but recently Stunt Coordinator Justin Reiner shared a video portraying how Hal and John will be able to fly in the show.

This is exciting for several reasons, but the biggest one is that it confirms Hal and John will be using their Green Lantern powers in the show. When fans first heard that Lanterns would take place on Earth and was being described as “grounded,” many worried that the use of their iconic powers would be limited.

Those concerns grew when a recent set leak showed John Stewart holding a gun, something that fits his military background, but with no sign of a Lantern ring.

Now, with stunt coordinator Justin Reiner showing us that the Lanterns will, in fact, take flight, it’s clear that their powers will be a key part of the series. This suggests the show may not be as grounded or stripped down as fans feared.

Lanterns will premiere on HBO in early 2026 and will consist of eight episodes. It will be part of the DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
