Hollywood studios are always looking for the next big star to lead franchises and capture global audiences. Executives often pour millions into marketing campaigns to position talented Latina actresses as the new faces of major blockbusters. While many of these performers have sustained steady careers in the industry they sometimes struggled to reach the A-list status that producers anticipated. Here are twenty-five actresses who received significant studio pushes that did not quite result in the superstar trajectory intended.

Camilla Belle

Camilla Belle was positioned as a major leading lady in the late 2000s with high profile roles in big budget films. She starred in the prehistoric epic ‘10,000 BC’ which was a massive production intended to launch a new blockbuster era. Studios also cast her in the superhero thriller ‘Push’ alongside other rising stars of that time. Despite the heavy marketing campaigns and her presence on numerous magazine covers she mostly transitioned to smaller independent films and television roles later in her career. Her early momentum in tentpole movies did not translate into a long run as a box office draw.

Odette Annable

She took the lead role in the found footage monster movie ‘Cloverfield’ which generated immense buzz before its release. Hollywood continued to bet on her potential by casting her as the lead in the supernatural horror film ‘The Unborn’. While she found consistent work in television shows like ‘House’ and ‘Supergirl’ her film career did not skyrocket as predicted. The initial surge of major movie roles slowed down significantly after those early studio attempts. She remains a recognizable face on TV rather than a cinema headliner.

Genesis Rodriguez

The transition to becoming a consistent movie leading lady proved difficult despite her strong start. Her film career largely consists of supporting roles rather than the lead parts she initially secured.

Sasha Calle

TMDb

Warner Bros cast Sasha Calle as Supergirl in the superhero movie ‘The Flash’. This role was intended to launch a new character arc within the DC cinematic universe. The massive platform provided by the role did not result in the long term franchise security expected.

Leslie Grace
