Laurence Fishburne Is Still Open for a ‘Matrix’ Return, Despite ‘Matrix 4’ Rejection

The Matrix franchise is one of the most famous and beloved sci-fi franchises, despite the fact that only the first film had a flawless reception and performance. Still, despite all their problems, the second and third films are still loved by the majority of fans.

On the other hand, the fourth movie, Resurrections, was mostly met with negative reviews and comments that it was odd and unnecessary. Among the issues that the fans had with the movie was the absence of Laurence Fishburne in the role of Morpheus.

And while Morpheus did appear as a character – he was played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen II – a lot of the fans were angry that the franchise legend was not there. Recently, the actor commented on that situation and revealed whether he would come back to the franchise.

As you can guess, the revelation happened during his guest appearance on The View, where Fishburne discussed several questions, among which was his role in The Matrix franchise.

He revealed that he had offered the producers his services, but that they rejected him at the time; he did not reveal any details, so we don’t know why exactly he was not included in the movie. At the time, he simply said: “I am not in the next Matrix movie, and you’d have to ask Lana Wachowski why, because I don’t have an answer for that.”

And while we still don’t know any details, Fishburne is open to returning:

“It depends on the circumstances, who is involved, how well the script has been written. If they offer [it to] me. I offered my services to the fourth Matrix, and they didn’t respond well to that. It’s not like I didn’t say, ‘I’d like to offer my services.’ I did. And for whatever reason, that didn’t happen.”

Despite Neo being the central character, Morpheus was one of the most popular aspects of the franchise and the fans loved Fishburne in the role, which is why we hope that there will be room for him in the future.
