Leaked ‘Thunderbolts*’ Sentry Concept Art Releases, and It Looks Far Better Than What We Got

Marvel Studios’ latest installment, Thunderbolts*, marks a major turning point in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. The film accomplishes several key objectives that set the stage for future developments, both narratively and within the growing roster of heroes.

First and foremost, Thunderbolts introduces a brand-new team now officially known as The New Avengers. This signals a major shift in the MCU’s team dynamics and hints at a new generation of heroes poised to take the mantle from the original Avengers.

Secondly, the film successfully redeems several morally ambiguous characters. Figures like John Walker (U.S. Agent) and Ghost, who have previously straddled the line between hero and antihero, are given more nuanced portrayals.

Their arcs in Thunderbolts* humanize them and provide meaningful character development. The film also elevates Valentina Allegra de Fontaine, establishing her as a serious and dangerous power player within the MCU’s political and covert landscape.

However, for longtime fans of Marvel Comics, the most exciting development was the introduction of Robert Reynolds, better known as Sentry, a character often considered one of the most powerful in the Marvel Universe. His arrival adds a cosmic-level force to the MCU, and his inclusion teases major ramifications for future storylines.

Sentry, also known as Bob Reynolds, appears in the film with a look that stays fairly true to his comic book origins. From the costume to the glowing eyes, much of his visual design reflects the source material.

Lewis Pullman takes on the complex role and delivers a compelling performance that captures multiple layers of Sentry’s personality, ranging from his haunted vulnerability to his overwhelming power. The general consensus among fans and critics alike is that Pullman handled the role with impressive nuance.

Recently, leaked concept art for Sentry surfaced online, sparking renewed discussion among fans. Many have expressed that the early designs were even more visually striking than what made it to the final cut, though, as is often the case with MCU concept art, some of the boldest designs get toned down for the final product.

Directed by Jake Schreier and written by Eric Pearson and Joanna Calo, Thunderbolts* features extensive cast, including Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, Wyatt Russell, Olga Kurylenko, Lewis Pullman, David Harbour, and Julia Louis-Dreyfus.

In the film, a group of antiheroes are brought together and forced to complete a dangerous mission. They get caught in a deadly trap and must learn to work as a team.

The film is now available to stream on demand.
