Lee Cronin Wraps Filming on New Horror Project with Star-Studded Cast
Filming is done on The Mummy, a new horror movie from director Lee Cronin. The movie will be released in theaters on April 17, 2026. Cronin, who directed Evil Dead Rise, is now taking on a fresh version of the famous movie monster. This film is being made by New Line Cinema, with help from Blumhouse and James Wan’s Atomic Monster.
Jack Reynor is leading the cast. He’s joined by Laia Costa, Verónica Falcón, May Calamawy, May Elghety, and Natalie Grace. Cronin gave fans an update on Instagram after filming wrapped. He posted a photo of a set wall covered in hieroglyphics, giving a small look at the movie’s style.
So far, the story is being kept secret. But back in December, Cronin gave a hint about what to expect. “This will be unlike any Mummy movie you ever laid eyeballs on before […] I’m digging deep into the earth to raise something very ancient and very frightening,” he said.
This version of The Mummy is both written and directed by Cronin. It’s also the first film in the Mummy franchise that won’t be released by Universal Pictures. This time, New Line is handling the release. Filming started in March 2025 and took place in Ireland and Spain. It ended in June.
Cronin’s last film, Evil Dead Rise, was a major box office success. It earned around $150 million worldwide. That movie helped push the Evil Dead series in a new direction, with original creator Sam Raimi allowing other filmmakers to create their own stories within the franchise.
The team behind The Mummy includes some big names in horror. Jason Blum and James Wan are producing, along with Cronin’s own company, Doppelgängers. With this group involved, horror fans are keeping a close eye on the project.
I think Cronin’s version of The Mummy has real potential to shake things up. With strong producers, a solid cast, and his success on Evil Dead Rise, this could be a bold new take on a classic. What do you think about this new approach to The Mummy? Share your thoughts in the comments below.
