Netflix’s romantic comedy series Too Much will not return for a second season, according to Lena Dunham. Speaking at an FYC panel last week, Dunham explained that the show was always designed as a limited series.

Co-created by Dunham and her husband Luis Felber, Too Much premiered on July 10, 2025, with ten episodes starring Megan Stalter and Will Sharpe. The story was inspired by Dunham and Felber’s own romance, translating their experiences into the characters of Jessica and Felix.

Dunham, who has been living in the U.K. for several years, said the series was meant to explore a love story with more time than a film allows. “Our intention was always to make Too Much as a limited series. It was meant to feel like a classic transatlantic love story but with time to really dig into the complexities that a film doesn’t have the space for,” she said.

Although Dunham admitted she imagined a potential second season—“Of course I fell fully in love with Meg and Will’s dynamic and started imagining what the rest of their characters’ lives together could look like – Felix and Jess have a baby! Felix and Jess are on the first ship to populate Mars!”—she and Felber realized the story had reached its natural conclusion.

“It ends with a wedding. There’s even a little Easter egg, which is that within the final scene you can hear me yell ‘cut!’ We had done what we needed to do, and part of the job is knowing when to park it,” Dunham said.

She did leave the door open for the future: “Who knows — maybe there will be a time down the line when it feels right to check in on them again. But right now I’m pulling a Mary Poppins and heading on to the next (imaginary) family that needs me.”

Too Much follows Jessica, a New York commercial producer recovering from a breakup, who accepts a job transfer to London. Alone in a council flat, she meets musician Felix at a local pub, and the two gradually fall in love. Together, they navigate cultural differences, family expectations, and past relationship challenges in an attempt to build a lasting romance.

The series was well-received by critics. Rotten Tomatoes gave it an 83% approval rating, praising Megan Stalter’s performance and Dunham’s humor, while Metacritic assigned a score of 68 out of 100, indicating generally favorable reviews.
