Leslye Headland Confirms Long-Standing Qimir Fan Theory in New Book
Leslye Headland once again confirmed a long-standing theory about The Acolyte’s mysterious dark side figure, Qimir, and it’s one that connects directly to one of the most shadowy groups in Star Wars lore.
In The Art of The Acolyte, Headland revealed that Qimir, also known as “The Stranger,” was actually designed to become the very first Ren, the origin of the Knights of Ren. Fans had speculated about this connection since the series aired, noting that while Qimir was referred to as a “Sith,” he never explicitly called himself one.
Headland explained that this detail was intentional. “It was in the design of the character, as well as knowing that we were going to introduce Darth Plagueis, who has to end up with Palpatine as his apprentice,” she said in the book.
She went on to mention that, in keeping with the Sith “Rule of Two,” there needed to be a way to maintain the dark side’s presence outside of that strict hierarchy. “One way to keep it going is if the Stranger is the first Knight of Ren, part of a Sith-adjacent cult that we know eventually survives.”
This revelation ties The Acolyte’s timeline more closely to the sequel trilogy’s mythology, bridging the gap between ancient Sith traditions and the later emergence of Kylo Ren’s shadowy order.
The Knights of Ren were previously introduced as a mysterious group of dark warriors who operated independently from the Sith, following their own code and worshiping the dark side in their own way.
Fans of The Acolyte had long noticed clues hinting at this connection, Qimir’s ideology, his lack of allegiance to the Sith Order, and even his visual design all seemed to mirror the philosophy and aesthetic of the later Knights of Ren.
This confirmation from Headland solidifies that theory, giving new meaning to Qimir’s role in the galaxy’s dark history and adding depth to how the dark side evolved across eras.
