Lindsay Lohan, now 39, has had one of the most remarkable journeys in Hollywood, nearly three decades after she first captured audiences’ hearts in The Parent Trap. Lohan began in show business extremely young, starting as a model at just three years old.

She worked with Ford Models and appeared in campaigns for Calvin Klein Kids and Abercrombie, along with dozens of TV commercials, including spots for Pizza Hut, Wendy’s, and even a Jell-O ad with Bill Cosby. By age ten, she had already appeared on the soap opera Another World, earning praise for her early professionalism.

Her big break came in 1998 with Disney’s The Parent Trap, where Lohan played twins who reunite their divorced parents. The movie earned over $90 million worldwide, and critics applauded her ability to portray two distinct characters. The film also won her a Young Artist Award and a multi-film deal with Disney, cementing her status as a rising young star.

Lohan’s career took off further with 2003’s Freaky Friday, a body-swap comedy with Jamie Lee Curtis. She helped shape her character, and critics noticed her focus and talent, comparing her work to established stars.

The film was a hit, making $160 million globally, and won her an MTV Movie Award. Following this, she starred in Confessions of a Teenage Drama Queen and, most notably, Mean Girls in 2004. Mean Girls was written by Tina Fey and became a massive success, earning $129 million and cementing Lohan as a teen icon. Her performances earned her several Teen Choice and MTV awards, and her fame made her a frequent subject of tabloids.

At 17, Lohan released her first album, Speak, which sold over a million copies in the U.S. She later returned to Disney with Herbie: Fully Loaded in 2005, and also released a second album, A Little More Personal (Raw). She directed her own music video and co-wrote many of the songs, showing her interest in controlling her creative work.

However, her career soon faced challenges. Films like Just My Luck in 2006 underperformed, and Lohan’s personal struggles, including rehab and legal issues, began affecting her professional life. She worked on smaller, independent projects like A Prairie Home Companion and Bobby, receiving praise for her acting but still dealing with public scrutiny. In 2007, I Know Who Killed Me was a major setback, earning critical backlash and Golden Raspberry awards. She also had to withdraw from several projects due to her personal issues, making the following years turbulent for her career.

Between 2008 and 2013, Lohan worked steadily but faced mixed results. She appeared in TV movies like Labor Pains, guest-starred on Ugly Betty, and took roles in films including Machete and The Canyons. She hosted shows such as Chelsea Lately and appeared in documentaries like Lindsay Lohan’s Indian Journey.

Her performances received mixed reviews, but she remained a recognizable figure in the industry. In 2014, she starred in the docu-series Lindsay on OWN, showing her life after rehab and her move to New York City. She also made her stage debut in London in Speed-the-Plow, receiving a range of critical reactions.

Lohan’s career also expanded outside of acting. She launched a fashion line, 6126, and worked with brands like Jill Stuart, Fornarina, and Allbirds. She opened resorts in Mykonos and Rhodes, released jewelry and nursery accessories, and ventured into digital media with a mobile game and her lifestyle site Preemium. In 2022, she hosted a podcast called The Lohdown, showing her interest in new media and personal branding.

Her return to mainstream acting came with Netflix projects. In 2022, she starred in Falling for Christmas, her first major role in over a decade. The film became the most-watched holiday movie in the U.S. that year. She followed up with Irish Wish and Our Little Secret in 2024, earning praise for her performances.

In 2025, she reunited with Jamie Lee Curtis in Freakier Friday, marking another Disney success. She is also set to star in and produce Hulu’s series Count My Lies, her first lead TV role, signaling a new chapter in her career.

Lindsay Lohan’s path through Hollywood has been full of highs and lows. From child model to Disney star, teen icon, tabloid figure, and now a multifaceted entertainer and entrepreneur, she has constantly reinvented herself. Her story shows resilience and determination, proving that even after public struggles, she can continue to thrive creatively and professionally.

Lohan has shown that she is more than a former teen star, she is a performer, businesswoman, and media personality. What do you think about Lindsay’s journey and her return to major projects? Share your thoughts in the comments.
