Family dramas rarely get as tangled as the Hollingsworths, a household where nearly everyone carries a badge and a secret. NBC’s newest thriller has spent weeks stacking up puzzle pieces around one missing son. The ‘Line of Fire‘ ending explained is a big step toward putting them together.

The series premiered on September 21 and was created by Joshua Safran. It follows a family of agents from the FBI, U.S. Marshals, Secret Service and Department of Justice, who find themselves tangled in a deadly conspiracy. The eldest son, Jack, was believed dead, but his death turned out to be a cover story the couple told everyone, including their children, when he went undercover.

Since then, Jack has been leaving origami cranes at crime scenes and slipping into spaces connected to the investigation. In the fourth hour, Jane finally admitted the truth about his disappearance to Mia. That set the stage for “Cul-de-Sac,” which aired Monday, October 19.

By the end, a dental office employee recognizes Jack in a Hollingsworth family photograph as her new coworker, David. Nia Wallace asks for his employment file, and the episode ends before we see whether she tells Jane. It’s the clearest evidence yet that Jack is alive and working close to the people hunting him.

‘Line of Fire’ Episode 6 Release Date, Time and Where to Watch

Flashbacks return to the assassination attempt on President Thomas Barnes, when Mike spotted a gun and moved to protect him. Now a former president, Barnes, played by Sam Waterston, wants Mike to speak at an event for his presidential library. Mike can’t bring himself to celebrate an account he no longer trusts, and he’s willing to risk his career over it.

His sons try to give him peace of mind. Russ and Micah look into the case and expect to confirm the original conclusion, but Russ keeps digging and finds that the drug-testing documentation doesn’t hold together. Instead of proving their father wrong, they uncover evidence that the record itself was manipulated.

Their review also turns up another man at the shooting, someone Mike had cleared for access. The cliffhanger is that this man is expected at the library event, so a historical investigation becomes a possible present-day threat.

To get surveillance material from the day of the shooting, Russ turns to Brandon Hayes, a former Marine he served with who now works for the NSA. Tyler Posey plays Brandon, and the ease between the two men hints at a deep history. The episode establishes shared service and familiarity but doesn’t confirm a past romance.

Clare poses as a married couple with Raul Amara, played by Laith Khalifeh, to investigate a protected witness whose location keeps being exposed. A crane found at a shooting scene shows that Deputy Marshal Stevens was the real target, linking the case to Jane and Nia’s wider investigation. The witness’s own problem turns out to be mundane, as forwarded deliveries created a trail that let his enemy find him.

Stevens doesn’t survive the hour. While Jane and Nia question him at the task-force location, he’s shot from above just as a connection emerges between him and a previously murdered agent. The full explanation dies with him, but the pattern is clearer now, with each victim’s death made to look like an occupational hazard.

The emotional center of the hour is a painful confrontation between Jane and Mike. Jane makes clear that sleeping together hasn’t restored their marriage, and she still blames Mike for supporting Jack’s undercover assignment. Mike sees it differently, since Jack was an adult making his own choice.

Mike later removes his ring and gives his number to a woman who showed interest in him. Jane still turns up to support him at his speech, so the family connection survives even as reconciliation is off the table.

Critics responded warmly. Seat42F gave the hour 8.1 out of 10 and praised the dental employee recognizing Jack. Its main complaints were the undercover bickering and how quickly the old shooting case broke open.

TV Fanatic said the hour explored unknowns in both the foreground and the background of the story. CraveYouTV called it another solid hour, noting that every case seems to connect back to Jack in some way.

Next week’s “Cabin Pressure” airs Monday, October 26, with Mike planning to draw out an assassination suspect while Jane races to save a hijacked plane. Episodes stream on Peacock the day after they air. With Nia now holding independent evidence that Jack is nearby, the Hollingsworths won’t be able to keep running from the truth for long.

Should Nia Tell Jane That Jack Is Alive?
