‘Lioness’ Season 3 Just Delivered Taylor Sheridan’s Latest Streaming Smash
Taylor Sheridan has quietly built one of the most reliable hit factories in streaming, and the numbers keep proving it. His shows have become something of a guaranteed bet for Paramount+, consistently pulling in audiences that most other original series can only dream of matching.
The latest example comes courtesy of ‘Lioness,’ Sheridan’s espionage thriller starring Zoe Saldaña, which returned for its third season earlier this month after a gap that left fans anxiously speculating about when, or even if, the show would come back. Those worries have clearly evaporated now that the numbers are in.
The season 3 premiere of ‘Lioness’ hit 7.1 million viewers in its first seven days of streaming, according to Paramount’s internal data. That total puts the August 2 episode significantly above the audience season 2 reached with its own debut back in 2024, when the premiere drew closer to 3 million domestic households after the same seven-day window.
That kind of growth between seasons is rare for any streaming series, let alone one that had already built a solid audience. The jump becomes even more notable given how uncertain the show’s future looked at one point, with earlier reports speculating that season 3 might not arrive until as late as 2027 due to the long gap between Paramount’s renewal announcement and any concrete premiere date.
Those fears never materialized. Paramount+ officially renewed ‘Lioness’ on October 1, 2025, confirmed production had begun in Texas just five days later, and delivered the season 3 premiere on August 2, 2026, less than a year after that initial announcement.
Beyond the raw viewership figures, ‘Lioness’ has also been dominating the broader streaming conversation. According to preliminary data from Nielsen, ‘Lioness’ season 3 was the second-most-watched streaming original series in the United States during the week of August 2 through 8. It also ranked as the number one buzziest streaming drama between August 2 and 4, per Social Content Ratings, generating 6.9 million views on social media during that stretch.

The show’s international performance has been just as strong. On SkyShowtime in Europe, where ‘Lioness’ also streams, season 3 outperformed both of its previous seasons and is on track to land among the top five returning premieres the platform has ever had.
This success adds to what’s become a remarkably consistent run of hits for Sheridan-produced series on Paramount+. ‘The Madison,’ the Western series led by Michelle Pfeiffer and Kurt Russell, hit 8 million views in its first 10 days back in March, while ‘Dutton Ranch,’ the ‘Yellowstone’ sequel continuing the stories of Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler, pulled in 12.9 million views within a week of its May debut.
‘Lioness’ follows Joe McNamara, played by Saldaña, and her team as they navigate high-stakes covert missions, with the show drawing loose inspiration from a real Marine Corps program from the Iraq War era that used female soldiers to gather intelligence. Season 3 rounds out its cast with returning stars Nicole Kidman, Morgan Freeman, Michael Kelly, and Laysla De Oliveira, alongside newcomer Ian Bohen as Grady.
Sheridan executive produces the series alongside a lengthy list of collaborators including David C. Glasser, Saldaña, Kidman, and Ron Burkle, with Paramount Television Studios and 101 Studios handling production. With eight episodes total and a finale set for September 20, ‘Lioness’ still has plenty of runway left to build on this early momentum before the season wraps.
Given how quickly Sheridan’s shows keep breaking their own records, it’s becoming harder to bet against whatever he releases next.
