Karen Grassle, best known for playing Caroline “Ma” Ingalls on the classic series ‘Little House on the Prairie’, has shared a heartwarming new chapter in her life. The actress has found love again at 83 after reconnecting with someone from her past, creating a story that feels almost like one of the hopeful moments from the beloved family drama.

Grassle’s unexpected reunion happened after she traveled to Monaco for a celebration of ‘Little House on the Prairie’s 50th anniversary at the Monte-Carlo Television Festival. While attending the event, she decided to take a trip to nearby Carrara, Italy, to visit someone she once cared about many years earlier.

The actress told PEOPLE that she reached out to sculptor Robert Grove, a man she had dated when she was younger. After getting his contact information, Grassle sent him a message asking if he would welcome a visit. According to the actress, the response was immediate and positive.

“I was able to get an email, which wasn’t easy at first,” Grassle told PEOPLE. “I said, ‘How would you like a visitor?’ And he was enthusiastic. It was quite a surprise to find how close we felt when we saw each other.”

The reunion quickly became something much more meaningful. Grassle confirmed that she and Grove eventually “fell back in love” after spending time together again and realizing their connection was still there.

The actress has now decided to split her time between the United States and Italy. She recently shared that she completed the final steps of getting an apartment in Carrara, allowing her to spend more time near Grove while continuing her life and work in America.

Grassle explained that her connection with Grove goes back many years. The two first met when she was just 19 years old, at a time when she was beginning her journey in theater and exploring what would become a successful acting career.

“When I first met him, I was only 19 years old and I was just starting my life in the theater,” Grassle said. “Everything was new and exciting!”

Although their first romance did not last, their recent reunion gave them another opportunity to build a relationship later in life. For Grassle, the timing finally seemed right.

The actress became a household name when she joined ‘Little House on the Prairie’ as Caroline Ingalls, the mother of the Ingalls family. The NBC series, which aired from 1974 to 1983, became one of television’s most memorable family dramas and introduced audiences to characters including Charles Ingalls, Laura Ingalls, Mary Ingalls, and Carrie Ingalls.

The show was based on Laura Ingalls Wilder’s books about life on the American frontier and became a major success during its run. Grassle starred alongside Michael Landon, Melissa Gilbert, Melissa Sue Anderson, and Rachel Lindsay and Sidney Greenbush.

Even decades after the series ended, Grassle remains connected to the show and its fans. She continues to appear at ‘Little House on the Prairie’ fan events alongside other cast members, including Alison Arngrim, Dean Butler, and Charlotte Stewart.

What do you think of Karen Grassle finding love again at 83?
