A live-action Bloodborne movie is reportedly still in the works, according to a recent report from industry insider Daniel Richtman. While Sony hasn’t officially said anything, Richtman claims the project hasn’t been dropped and is still moving forward behind the scenes.

The movie is based on the 2015 PlayStation 4 exclusive game Bloodborne, developed by FromSoftware and published by Sony. The game takes place in a dark, creepy city called Yharnam, which is filled with terrifying monsters. The main character, known as the Hunter, tries to uncover the source of a deadly illness that’s turning people into beasts.

At the moment, there’s no confirmed director for the movie. That likely means Sony is still trying to find someone to lead the project. But fans already have their favorite picks in mind.

The script is reportedly being written by Darren Lemke, whose past work includes Shazam!, Goosebumps, and Gemini Man. He’s known for working on action and fantasy stories. Producer Lorenzo Di Bonaventura is also said to be attached. He’s worked on the Transformers and G.I. Joe movies, along with other game-related projects like DOOM and Dead Rising.

A leaked document describes the movie like this: “Sony project based on the PlayStation game of the same name. Bloodborne follows the player’s character, a Hunter, through the decrepit Gothic, Victorian-era-inspired city of Yharnam, whose inhabitants are afflicted with a blood-borne disease which transforms the residents, called Yharnamites, into horrific beasts. Attempting to find the source of the plague, the player’s character unravels the city’s mysteries while fighting beasts and cosmic beings.”

Sony hasn’t made any comments so far. Since the game hasn’t received much attention from the company in years, some fans are surprised this movie is even being considered. Still, Richtman has a decent track record when it comes to this kind of news, which is why some people are hopeful.

That said, nothing has been confirmed, and even if the report is true, plans can always change. So fans will have to wait and see if Sony decides to make this official.
