Paris Fashion Week rarely starts with a runway. This season, one of its first big nights was a dinner inside the Musée des Arts Décoratifs, hosted by Tiffany & Co. to kick off the week, with womenswear collections for spring and summer 2027 still to come. The Tiffany & M.A.D. dinner set the tone for the week ahead.

The occasion was the launch of a new partnership between the jeweler and the museum. The 4-year initiative will restore and digitize a Jean Schlumberger archive of more than 10,000 items, including 5,000 drawings and more than 5,000 documents, photographs and personal papers. The museum received the archive in 1994, and Tiffany’s president and CEO Anthony Ledru described the project as a way to preserve and deepen understanding of the designer’s legacy.

Among the guests, Anya Taylor-Joy’s Tiffany & M.A.D. dinner look stood out. Photographed by Pierrick Rocher for BFA, she wore a strapless gray satin gown with a sweetheart neckline and a sheer lace skirt. Her long blonde hair fell in soft waves, and she added a delicate necklace and bracelet as she posed on the museum’s ornate stone staircase.

The setting suits her. Taylor-Joy is a longtime Tiffany ambassador, and she fronted the house’s Schlumberger by Tiffany & Co. and Blue Book 2023 high jewelry campaign, shot by Craig McDean. In a Tiffany press release, she said the house has “such a long-standing history for its design and craftsmanship.”

Her connection to Schlumberger’s designs goes back further than that campaign. She wore his necklace, bracelet and earrings to the Golden Globes, where she was nominated for ‘The Menu’ after winning the year before for ‘The Queen’s Gambit’. Last November, she also lit a giant Bird on a Rock installation over Fifth Avenue for Tiffany’s holiday celebration.

Taylor-Joy was far from alone. Diane Kruger, Rosie Huntington-Whiteley, Greta Lee, Amanda Seyfried and Adria Arjona also attended, and the group posed together in front of a backdrop reading “I am only a pencil.” The line is a nod to Schlumberger himself. Just Jared reported that Cynthia Erivo joined them as well.

Erivo wore a coordinated Khaite bomber jacket and maxiskirt in glossy dark blue, styled with more than $50,000 worth of Tiffany jewels, according to WWD. WWD also identified Taylor-Joy and Greta Lee as Tiffany ambassadors among the high-profile guests. It was a night where the jewelry did as much of the talking as the gowns.

The dinner accompanied the launch of an immersive exhibition called ‘I Am Only a Pencil’, curated with the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. It traces the journey from a simple stroke of graphite to a finished high jewelry masterpiece. The show pairs fragile historical works on paper with the physical treasures they inspired.

For visitors, the appeal is seeing the sketch and the finished piece side by side. It is a rare look at how a designer’s imagination becomes a wearable object. The Virginia Museum of Fine Arts also contributed scientific expertise to the preservation effort.

Schlumberger’s work helped define Tiffany starting in 1956, and his nature-inspired creations remain central to the brand. His most famous design, Bird on a Rock, was first created in 1965 and is still one of the house’s most recognizable pieces. Even decades after his death in 1987, his influence is easy to see.

That influence has been on full display this year. Tiffany’s Blue Book 2026 collection, titled Hidden Garden, reinterprets several of his most iconic designs in new color combinations. The Monarch necklace, pulled from an archival Schlumberger design, was singled out as a standout piece during Paris Couture Week.

One detail worth noting is that the dinner was not built around a new product launch. As one analysis put it, positioning the evening around Schlumberger’s archive marks a shift toward storytelling over straightforward promotion. It is a smart way to keep a heritage brand feeling fresh.

For fans of red-carpet fashion, the images of Taylor-Joy are the highlight. The soft satin, the lace and the golden waves gave her a timeless look that fit the museum setting, and the jewelry kept the focus where Tiffany wanted it. It was a low-key showstopper from an ambassador who clearly knows the house’s history.
