According to the official One Piece announcement, the anime will take a short break early next year. The show will go on a planned three-month hiatus from January to March 2026. The production team calls it a “recharge period,” meant to give the staff time to get ready for the new chapter in the story.

The anime is expected to return in April 2026, kicking off the Elbaph Island arc in full swing.

There’s also a major change coming to how the anime will adapt the manga. The team shared plans to match each manga chapter with one anime episode. This slower pacing means the adaptation will stay closer to the original story, something longtime fans have been hoping for. It also suggests that the studio is focusing on higher quality animation and storytelling for future episodes.

The Elbaph Island arc has been one of the most talked-about parts of Eiichiro Oda’s manga for years. The island, known for being the homeland of the giants, has been teased since the early days of One Piece. Seeing it finally animated is a big deal for fans who have followed Luffy’s journey since the beginning.

The One Piece manga, written and illustrated by Oda, first started in July 1997. Over the years, it has grown into one of the most successful manga series ever made, surpassing 500 million copies in circulation worldwide by August 2022. The anime adaptation began airing in October 1999 and is still going strong after more than two decades, making it one of the longest-running anime series in history.
