Macaulay Culkin Reprises Iconic Role as Kevin in ‘Home Alone’ Comeback
Macaulay Culkin is stepping back into the shoes of Kevin McCallister, but this time the mischievous antics have grown up with him.
The actor is reprising his iconic role for a new Home Instead ad campaign called “Home But Not Alone,” celebrating the 35th anniversary of the holiday classic Home Alone. Instead of setting traps for burglars, Kevin’s latest mission is keeping his aging mother safe from everyday hazards.
You can check out the ad on YouTube.
The ad shows Kevin carefully planning a “Mom’s safety plan,” which includes bubble-wrapping furniture, salting icy steps, removing fire risks, and securing carpets. Talking to one of his siblings on the phone, he explains, “I’m just worried about Mom being by herself, y’know? What if she falls down or gets snowed in? They never did catch that South Bay Shovel Slayer.”
During the preparations, Kevin hears the sound of a shovel and discovers it’s Old Man Marley’s granddaughter clearing snow. She offers him advice about asking his mother for help. “Have you tried to talk to her about getting a little help?” she asks.
Kevin admits, “I’m afraid to bring it up.” She reassures him, “The scariest part is starting that conversation, then at least you’ll know and can stop worrying about it… It’s not easy. But how you feel about family is a complicated thing.” Kevin responds excitedly, “It was just like your grandfather! The face, the eye, the boots! It gave me chills. You nailed it!”
Other clips from the campaign show Kevin ordering his mom a pizza, picking up her groceries in a humorous nod to his original movie mishaps, and finally feeling confident leaving her at home safely.
