AMC has released the trailer for The Walking Dead: Dead City season 3, and it shows Maggie and Negan trying to build something new in a ruined New York City. The information comes from AMC’s official trailer release and related coverage of the series ahead of its premiere on July 26.

The new season continues right after the events of season 2, where Maggie and Negan made a surprising decision to stay together and keep moving forward despite their long and violent history. Now, they are back in New York, and the city is still full of danger, walkers, and broken systems.

In the trailer, Maggie talks about New York City in a hopeful way. She calls it something important, even in its ruined state. At one point she says, “New York City is special” and also describes it as “the last best hope for any of us.” Her idea is that the city could be rebuilt into something better, even after everything that has happened.

The trailer shows her trying to convince Negan to believe in this plan. She wants to build a safe community where people can live again. She even tells him that they have enough resources to start over, including food, weapons, and electricity. Maggie believes they can create something close to a real society again.

Negan, however, is not convinced. He questions her optimism and wonders why she thinks things can be fixed. He responds with doubt and sarcasm, saying, “That’s a good one. Oh, you’re being serious?” His attitude shows that he does not fully trust the idea of rebuilding society in a world that is still so violent and unstable.

As the trailer continues, Maggie also talks about the need to deal with walkers. She asks for help in controlling and clearing them out, showing that survival is still a daily struggle. There are several scenes of walkers attacking and the group fighting back, making it clear that danger is never far away.

A new character named Dillard is also introduced in this season. He is played by Jimmi Simpson. In one scene, Negan argues with him and says, “Stop pretending like you can talk to those breeds,” referring to the walkers. This shows that tensions are already building between the characters in the new community.

The trailer also highlights a growing concern about Negan’s behavior. Some characters begin to question whether he can be trusted. There are moments where people describe him in harsh terms, suggesting they see him as a threat to the safety of the group. At one point, he is shown telling two tied-up people, “We’re going to play a game,” which raises even more concern among the others.

Maggie, meanwhile, worries about what survival really means. She suggests that protecting people often comes with a heavy cost. Negan echoes a darker version of that idea when he says, “In order to keep people alive, you have to kill a whole bunch of other people.” He also says he would do whatever it takes to protect Maggie, showing that his loyalty is still complicated.

The trailer ends with Maggie asking, “Who’s left to stop us?” and Negan reacting with a knowing grin, hinting that their partnership will continue to be unpredictable and dangerous.

The Walking Dead: Dead City is one of the last remaining active series in the wider Walking Dead franchise. It stars Lauren Cohan as Maggie and Jeffrey Dean Morgan as Negan, both reprising their original roles from The Walking Dead. The cast also includes Gaius Charles, Željko Ivanek, Lisa Emery, Logan Kim, Keir Gilchrist, and new additions like Aimee Garcia, Raúl Castillo, and Jimmi Simpson.

Season 3 of The Walking Dead: Dead City premieres on July 26 at 9 p.m. EDT on AMC and AMC+, continuing the story of survival, conflict, and uneasy cooperation in a broken world.
