Margot Robbie Admits She Was “Codependent” With Jacob Elordi on Wuthering Heights Set
Jacob Elordi and Margot Robbie are quickly becoming one of Hollywood’s most talked-about on-screen pairings. While promoting their upcoming film Wuthering Heights, the two actors opened up about how intense the filming experience was and how their connection grew far beyond the script.
The film is directed by Emerald Fennell and is based on Emily Brontë’s classic novel about the destructive love between Heathcliff and Catherine.
According to Elordi and Robbie, bringing those characters to life required a level of emotional closeness that naturally spilled into real life.
Robbie explained that she tends to form strong bonds with the people she works with. She said this happens on almost every project and admitted that she struggles when filming ends. “I’m so codependent with people I work with, and I love everyone so much, and I’m always that person who’s so devastated when a job’s over and I never want it to end,” she said.
That attachment showed up very early while working with Elordi. Robbie said the connection formed almost immediately once filming began. “I think I developed that quite quickly with Jacob, too,” she shared. Being close to him on set became something she relied on, which she felt reflected the obsessive nature of the characters they were playing.
She recalled that during the first few days of shooting, Elordi was rarely far away. “I remember the first couple of days on set, he would just be always in the vicinity where I was,” Robbie said. “But like in a corner, watching Cathy.”
Not long after, she noticed the feeling had shifted. Instead of just noticing his presence, she began actively searching for him. “I found myself starting to look around to see where he was,” she said. When he wasn’t nearby, the absence felt strange and unsettling. “And I felt quite lost, like a kid without their blanket or something,” Robbie admitted.
She wasn’t sure if that feeling came from trying to stay in character or if it was simply how she works as an actor. “I don’t know if… I’m trying to get into Kathy mode, or that’s just how I am as an actor,” she said.
Elordi agreed that the feeling went both ways. He summed it up simply during the interview by saying, “We have a mutual obsession.” He also spoke highly of Robbie and said working alongside her was something he didn’t take lightly.
“If you have the opportunity to share a film set with Margot Robbie, you’re going to make sure you’re within 5 to 10 meters at all times, watching how she drinks tea, how she eats her food,” he said, before adding, “She’s just like an elite actor.”
The project brings together a team that already shares a strong creative history. Fennell previously directed Elordi in Saltburn, which was produced by Robbie’s company, LuckyChap Entertainment. That existing relationship helped create a comfortable and focused environment on set.
