Margot Robbie and Jacob Elordi, two stars from Queensland, are making waves in Hollywood, and their latest project is the highly anticipated Wuthering Heights. In a recent interview with Vogue Australia, the pair reflected on their journey from small-town Australia to major Hollywood productions, as well as their experiences working on the gothic romance together.

Robbie and Elordi both grew up in Queensland, but seven years apart, and now they are bringing their shared roots to a classic British story. Robbie, who produced the film under her LuckyChap banner, first suggested Elordi for Saltburn, the movie that helped him rise to fame. “Queensland kids done good,” Elordi says, with Robbie agreeing, “Oh, we done good.”

The pair shared memories of their early struggles. Before fame, Elordi slept in his car on Mulholland Drive while trying to get acting jobs. Robbie recalls seeing him early in his career, saying, “Did it feel like a more realistic dream because someone from the Gold Coast had done it?” Elordi replied, “Very much so. The Gold Coast is so close to where I’m from… and that wasn’t that long ago.”

Working on Wuthering Heights presented a new challenge. Elordi described his initial doubts about portraying Heathcliff. “I didn’t know if I’m good enough… the first three weeks, I would go home and I had the greatest amount of doubt I’ve probably ever had,” he said. Robbie explained how she balances producing with acting. “I know at some point I need to stop being a producer to that director and I need them to know that I’m there as their actor,” she shared.

The two also talked about playful moments on set and how much they enjoyed each other’s company while filming. Elordi laughed about his “Jesus Elordi” look with long hair and a beard, while Robbie recalled her favorite costume moments. “You were pretty devastating in the wedding stuff,” she said, praising Elordi’s performance.

Beyond the film itself, the conversation highlighted the bond between the two stars, both professionally and personally. They discussed learning from each other, navigating Hollywood, and staying connected to their Australian roots, even while shooting iconic literary material in new and creative ways.
