Margot Robbie Opens Up About the Moment She Knew Acting Was Her Calling
Margot Robbie recently shared the story of when she realized she wanted to become an actor, in an interview with Lynn Hirschberg.
Surprisingly, Robbie doesn’t actually remember the moment herself. “I had this conversation with my mum recently, and she said, ‘Do you remember the day you told me you were going to be an actor?’ And I said, ‘No’. That feels like a pretty important moment, and I don’t remember it at all,” Robbie said.
Her mother, however, clearly remembers the day. Robbie explained, “I must have said it when I was doing my first job, so I was 16. Of course, I loved movies my whole life, but I never considered acting as a job. I think my family were well aware that I was quite a performer when I was a kid because I would constantly re-enact movies.”
Robbie’s early love for films came from watching VHS tapes over and over again. “We had X amount of videos at home, and I would just watch them on repeat no matter what they were, and mum would be cooking dinner or whatever, and I would re-enact them and go on and on and on, and she would be like, ‘Are you making this up?’ I’d say, ‘No, it’s a movie.’ And she’d be like, ‘How do you remember it?’”
Some of the films that left a lasting impression on Robbie were Goldie Hawn classics, including Private Benjamin. “There were a lot of Goldie Hawn films like Private Benjamin, one of my all-time favourites,” Robbie recalled.
Looking ahead, Robbie has several projects lined up. She will star alongside Colin Farrell in Kogonada’s A Big Bold Beautiful Journey and appear with Jacob Elordi in Fennell’s adaptation of Wuthering Heights, which has recently released its first teaser.
Margot Robbie’s story is a reminder that sometimes our passions are clear to others before we even realize them ourselves. What was the moment you knew your dream? Share your story in the comments.
