Marvel Legends Reunite – Robert Downey Jr., Kevin Feige and Shawn Levy Captured in New Snap
Shawn Levy recently shared photos on Instagram from a special night at the University of Southern California, where the Kevin Feige Division of Film & Television Production was officially dedicated. Levy wrote, “So happy to support my friend Kevin Feige and celebrate all he’s done for our shared alma mater … Great chat with KF, Ryan Coogler and all of you who came out for this fantastic night.”
The event brought together some of Hollywood’s biggest names. Along with Levy and Feige, filmmakers like Ryan Coogler attended, and Robert Downey Jr. was there with his wife, Susan Downey, who is also a USC alum. Disney executives and other high-profile industry figures were present to celebrate Feige’s endowment, which will support students, faculty, and programs at the school.
A key highlight of the evening was a candid conversation between Feige, Coogler, and Levy. They discussed the challenges of working in Hollywood, including dealing with internet criticism and the pressures of test screenings. Feige shared, “There are hours and hours of theories on YouTube, hours and hours on TikTok, hours on subreddits … You can read everything on everything and get a different point of view on it. You can go crazy. So, we don’t do that.”
Levy added, “And when you’re working on big franchise stuff, like Marvel and Star Wars, you’ve gotta know when to put it down, go quiet, and go back to what you had in your head and in your voice when you began.” They also spoke about the hiring process for directors, with Feige noting that chemistry and collaboration matter more than past credits.
Coogler shared a funny memory from 2008 when he saw the first Iron Man movie at the Arclight. He briefly left the theater and was locked out, only to return and watch Robert Downey Jr. and Jon Favreau greet the audience. “It was magic. I had just moved to L.A. And I thought to myself, ‘I can’t believe I’m here,’” Coogler said.
Levy also talked about how Hugh Jackman’s involvement shaped Deadpool & Wolverine, emphasizing the role of nostalgia in the story. “It was heaven to sit there and go, ‘Who do people miss and they don’t even know how much they miss them?’”
The conversation also touched on the passing of Chadwick Boseman in 2020. Feige recalled Boseman’s excitement over voicing T’Challa in What If…? and how much he looked forward to future projects. “We will be back in there, that was always my expectation,” Feige said, reflecting on the harsh reality that there isn’t always a next time with people you care about.
Coogler added that visiting Boseman’s home during the pandemic gave him a moment to connect on a personal level. “It wasn’t ‘Hey, what are we going to do about this franchise?’ It was about, ‘Hey, are you OK? How are you taking it?’ … It was real moment where you see the humanity beyond the corporate things and the financial responsibilities,” he said.
Coogler concluded, “There was only one Chad, bro. And there was only one character that was really meant for him.”
This event shows that even Hollywood’s biggest players take time to reflect and connect. It’s a reminder that behind the glitz and blockbusters, relationships and human moments matter most.
