Marvel has set July 23, 2027, as the release date for an unnamed movie, but sources say it won’t be an X-Men film. Marvel didn’t comment on this for the story.

One strong guess is that the mystery movie could be ‘Shang-Chi 2.’ Back in December 2021, a sequel to ‘Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings’ was announced, with Destin Daniel Cretton coming back as writer and director. Simu Liu is expected to return as Shang-Chi.

Filming was supposed to start in March 2025, but since then, there has been very little news about the project. Recently, Liu posted a workout video, which made fans think he’s getting ready to play Shang-Chi again. ‘Shang-Chi 2’ would fit well in the schedule since it’s rumored to release between ‘Doomsday’ and ‘Secret Wars.’ The Ten Rings are said to be important in the Multiverse Saga, similar to how the Infinity Stones were in earlier stories.

Another possible movie for that date is ‘Doctor Strange 3.’ In recent months, rumors about this third Doctor Strange film have been growing. Benedict Cumberbatch is set to return, along with Charlize Theron’s character Clea, who will have a bigger role.

The movie is said to involve a group called the Black Priests and feature Dormammu, with Strange trying to fix “incursions” he caused. Some reports suggested Denzel Washington was going to play Dormammu, but he later said that Ryan Coogler is writing a part for him in the next ‘Black Panther’ movie instead. Given Doctor Strange’s key role in the Multiverse Saga, this third film seems like a good fit for the release slot.

The third option might be ‘Black Panther 3,’ which Marvel Studios is reportedly taking very seriously. By November 2022, Ryan Coogler and Marvel boss Kevin Feige had already talked about making a third Black Panther film.

Two years later, Coogler discussed casting Denzel Washington for a role. Nate Moore, who left Marvel in March 2025, is set to return as producer. In early 2025, Moore confirmed Coogler will direct and that work will begin later in the year after Coogler finishes his film Sinners. Coogler also confirmed Washington’s casting in June.

So, while Marvel hasn’t officially said which movie will come out on July 23, 2027, it’s likely to be one of these three, ‘Shang-Chi 2,’ ‘Doctor Strange 3,’ or ‘Black Panther 3.’ Each fits into the MCU’s larger story and has some strong signs pointing to it.
