Marvel Unveils New ‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Teaser Ahead of Release
Marvel fans just got another look at Spider-Man: Brand New Day after a brand-new teaser for the movie was released online. The upcoming film will bring Tom Holland back as Peter Parker for the first solo Spider-Man story since Spider-Man: No Way Home changed the character’s life completely.
The movie follows Peter after Doctor Strange’s memory spell erased him from everyone’s lives. Now living alone and keeping his identity secret, Peter is back to protecting New York City while dealing with a dangerous new threat and strange changes to his powers.
The teaser gives fans a darker and more grounded look at Peter’s new life. Instead of fighting world-ending disasters with the Avengers, this version of Spider-Man is focused on street-level crime and surviving on his own. The footage also hints at a more emotional story as Peter struggles with loneliness after losing MJ and Ned from his everyday life.
Tom Holland recently described the movie as a very different chapter for Peter Parker. He said the story explores adulthood, sacrifice, and identity in a deeper way than before. Marvel producers have also shared that this film is meant to show Peter becoming a “proper Spider-Man” on his own for the first time.
One of the biggest surprises is the return of Jon Bernthal as Frank Castle, also known as the Punisher. Holland revealed that Spider-Man and Punisher start off clashing with each other before developing what he called a “big brother/little brother rivalry.” Mark Ruffalo is also returning as Bruce Banner, with Peter reportedly turning to him for help after his spider powers begin changing in dangerous ways.
Zendaya is back as MJ, although things between her and Peter are no longer simple after the events of No Way Home. The movie will also feature Jacob Batalon returning as Ned Leeds, alongside newcomers like Sadie Sink and Tramell Tillman. Michael Mando is finally returning as Scorpion after first appearing in Spider-Man: Homecoming back in 2017.
The movie’s title comes from the famous Marvel comic storyline Brand New Day, which rebooted Peter Parker’s life after everything around him changed. Marvel seems to be using a similar idea here, giving audiences a version of Spider-Man who has lost almost everything and is starting over from scratch.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is directed by Destin Daniel Cretton and written by Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers. Filming took place in England and Scotland, including scenes shot at Pinewood Studios. The film is scheduled to hit theaters on July 31.
