Marvel’s ‘Worthy Star’ Logo Hints at Thor and Steve Rogers’ Team-Up in ‘Avengers: Doomsday’

Marvel has always been good at saying a lot with a single symbol. A shield, a hammer or an arc reactor can tell fans who is back and what’s at stake before a single line of dialogue is spoken. With ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ bringing together heroes from several universes, the studio is leaning on that tradition again, this time through merchandise.

The film’s marketing has been quietly building a case for one pairing in particular. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor and Chris Evans’ Steve Rogers are the two heroes at the center of some of the movie’s most talked-about footage, and Steve has spent months out of the Captain America suit after passing the shield to Sam Wilson. That makes the question of how he is represented on screen, and on a T-shirt, more interesting than usual.

Now new ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ merchandise has revealed a team-up logo for the pair. Called the ‘Worthy Star,’ it shows Thor and Steve each holding a hammer inside a star split into red and blue halves, with lightning crackling through the design and the ‘Avengers: Doomsday’ logo underneath.

The symbol first surfaced on a life-size metal ring included with a Special Edition Hot Toys figure of Steve Rogers. Described as a star broken into two sharp, angular halves, one red and one blue, with a lightning bolt between them, it didn’t look much like the classic shield. The design has since appeared on other merchandise, including a sweatshirt at Target pairing Thor and Steve under a new Avengers logo.

The star motif is a curious choice, since Steve is no longer Captain America and won’t wear a star-shaped design in the film. Reports note that the red-and-blue palette keeps the patriotic color scheme intact, but the lightning points toward Thor. It follows another Marvel-created logo that used Mjolnir rather than the shield as Steve’s primary symbol.

The figure gives fans a detailed look at the character’s new style. Steve is dressed in a charcoal brown jacket, black T-shirt, olive-brown trousers and black shoes, with mid-length brown hair and a full beard similar to his ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ look. The 1/6-scale collectible stands about 12 inches tall with 30 points of articulation and is priced at $280 for the Collector Edition.

It also comes with a cracked Mjolnir that lights up and glows with blue lightning. Eagle-eyed fans noticed that the figure’s left hand includes Steve’s wedding ring, a nod to the life he chose with Peggy Carter at the end of ‘Avengers: Endgame.’

The merchandise echoes the final beat of the film’s July trailer. After Thor tries to rally the X-Men, the Wakandans, the Fantastic Four and the Avengers to face a threat, the clip closes on his reunion with Steve Rogers, who proves it’s really him by summoning Mjolnir just as he did in ‘Endgame.’ It confirmed that Steve remains worthy of the hammer even after stepping away from the mantle of Captain America.

The trailer drew massive attention, reportedly racking up 503 million views in its first 24 hours and ranking as the second-largest movie trailer launch of all time. Marvel’s earlier teaser in December had shown Steve riding a motorcycle home and holding a baby, ending with a card that said Steve Rogers will return rather than Captain America.

The logo suggests that the film’s marketing is positioning Steve and Thor as a duo, but plenty remains unconfirmed. Fans have also wondered how Steve and Sam Wilson’s Captain America will coexist, and early merchandise suggests Steve will wield Mjolnir while Sam keeps the shield. Directors Joe and Anthony Russo have kept the plot of ‘Doomsday’ tightly under wraps, and Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom remains the looming threat.

‘Avengers: Doomsday’ opens on December 18, 2026, and it serves as the first chapter of a two-part finale that continues in ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’ in December 2027. If the merchandise is any indication, the symbols of that story are already taking shape.
