Marvel’s ‘X-Men’ Reboot Starts Casting, Searching for Fresh Young Talent
Marvel Studios is changing how they’re making the next “X-Men” movie. Kevin Feige, the head of Marvel, is leading the charge.
Jake Schreier, who directed “Thunderbolts*,” will be the director for this new big movie. The studio is still working on the script, which Michael Lesslie is writing.
Casting will start soon, and Marvel is open to many actors. However, the studio has told agents they want younger actors instead of famous stars “to keep the cost down,” according to one agent. Marvel has a movie release date set for July 23, 2027, but sources say it will not be the “X-Men” film. When asked, Marvel did not comment.
People on Wall Street are paying attention to Marvel as it brings together many new projects, including popular ones from 20th Century Fox like “Fantastic Four,” “X-Men,” and last year’s big hit “Deadpool & Wolverine,” which made $1.34 billion worldwide.
Back in July 2019 at San Diego Comic-Con, Kevin Feige said mutants, including the X-Men, would join the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) someday. He explained that the MCU’s version would be different from the old Fox movies.
By September 2023, Marvel was ready to meet writers to start planning the new X-Men movie. Michael Lesslie started talks to write the script in May 2024 and was confirmed as the writer a year later. Soon after, Jake Schreier was announced as the director after positive reviews of “Thunderbolts*.”
Feige also said that after bringing back some actors from the old Fox X-Men movies for the Multiverse Saga, this new movie will have a completely new, younger cast. He described it as “a very youth-oriented, focused and cast movie.” This comes after the MCU’s Secret Wars event reset the timeline, allowing Marvel to start fresh with the X-Men team.
This new approach shows Marvel’s plan to build a new generation of X-Men without relying on big stars, aiming to connect with younger fans.
The news was first reported by Variety.
