Matt Damon surprised fans and Jimmy Kimmel alike when he showed up in disguise on Kimmel’s latest New York episode. The Good Will Hunting star snuck onto the set dressed as Frankie Focus, a mascot for New York education tied to the state’s school cellphone ban.

At first, Kimmel didn’t realize who was under the green mascot head. Damon used a cartoonish voice to speak, jokingly insulting Kimmel and even asking the audience if the host seemed “dumb.”

After several playful jabs, Kimmel finally tore off the mascot head to reveal Damon, prompting cheers and applause from the crowd at the Brooklyn Academy of Music’s Howard Gilman Opera House.

Once revealed, Damon explained why he had gone to such lengths. “I know we’ve had our differences over the years, but I wanted to be here tonight for your last show ever,” he said. Kimmel quickly corrected him, saying, “This isn’t my last show ever. We have a show Monday.”

Damon appeared confused but continued joking, referencing former President Trump’s false claim that Kimmel’s show had been canceled. “But the president canceled you — which I was a big fan of, by the way,” he said.

The playful chaos continued when Damon interacted with Kimmel’s mother, who was in the audience. “What’s up, Joan? What’s up? Hey, girl!” he shouted, even holding her hand briefly as he exited the stage. Damon also poked fun at his costume, saying, “I was lying about the costume. It is a s** thing.”

The stunt is the latest chapter in the long-running Damon-Kimmel “feud,” which began in 2005 when Kimmel ended an episode with the now-famous line, “Apologies to Matt Damon, but we ran out of time,” despite Damon never being scheduled to appear. Since then, the pair have playfully traded barbs, often involving other celebrities like Ben Affleck, Sarah Silverman, and Tom Brady.

Matt Damon’s prank shows why late-night shows are so entertaining when celebrities get in on the fun. His disguise and antics had the audience laughing, and it’s clear the Damon-Kimmel rivalry is far from over. Do you think these playful stunts make late-night shows more fun?
