Matt Prokop Under Fire After Private Footage Shows Alleged Abuse Toward Ex
Matt Prokop, the former Disney actor best known for High School Musical 3: Senior Year, is facing renewed scrutiny after a private video allegedly showing him getting rough with his ex-girlfriend surfaced online.
According to footage obtained by the Daily Mail, the 35-year-old actor can be seen seemingly pushing his ex, Lucy, out the front door of a Texas home. In the video, Lucy can be heard crying, “Oh no,” while a small dog barks in the background.
The video is separate from Prokop’s recent arrest on multiple charges, including alleged possession of child por******. TMZ reports that he was taken into custody on December 24, 2025, in Victoria County, Texas, and is being held without bail. The Ring footage is not connected to the charges for which he is currently detained.
Lucy, who was previously engaged to Prokop, told Page Six that she endured “years of abuse” from him. “After many years of abuse, the effects are still very real and continue to impact my life,” she said. She added, “Right now, I’m taking time to heal privately, with the support of close friends and family. Taking this time does not lessen the seriousness or harm of his actions.”
Reflecting on her younger self, Lucy also said, “Being young myself, I truly did not understand the severity of the case. Taking this time does not lessen the seriousness or harm of his actions.”
Prokop’s history of alleged abuse extends beyond Lucy. “Modern Family” star Sarah Hyland accused him of verbal and physical abuse during their five-year relationship. In May 2014, court filings obtained by Page Six allege that he slammed Hyland into a vehicle and choked her during an argument.
After their breakup, Hyland claimed that Prokop threatened to kill her dog and burn down her house. She later secured a restraining order, requiring him to stay away from her for three years. Combined with Lucy’s statements, these allegations paint a troubling picture of Prokop’s personal conduct.
Prokop began his career as a teen actor with Disney. He is best remembered for playing Troy Bolton’s best friend in High School Musical 3: Senior Year. He also appeared in films such as Furry Vengeance (2010), Cougar Hunting (2011), and Struck by Lightning (2012), and had guest roles on television, including Modern Family.
Since leaving Disney, Prokop’s career has slowed, with few major projects in recent years. He has mostly stayed out of the public eye, aside from controversies surrounding his personal life. Fans continue to remember him for his energetic performances in teen musicals and family films. Now they will remember him for the shocking footage.
Outside of acting, Prokop has done some modeling and small media appearances, though nothing on the scale of his Disney years. He has no announced film or TV projects, and his professional future remains unclear while legal issues continue.
