Mattel’s First DCU Figures Appear to Be David Corenswet’s Superman, Krypto and Peacemaker
Toy aisles tend to reveal where a franchise is headed long before the movies get there. When a studio signs a major licensing deal, the merchandise often becomes the first public sign that a new era is truly underway. For the DC Universe, that moment is arriving as Mattel returns to the DC action figure business.
The company reclaimed the DC license in a multi-year deal announced in February 2025 with Warner Bros. Discovery Global Consumer Products. Mattel is developing a full range of DC-themed action figures, playsets, accessories, role-play products and adult collectibles, with the products starting in the second half of 2026. It had lost the broader rights about 6 years earlier to rivals Spin Master and McFarlane Toys.
Now, photos from a trade-show display suggest what Mattel’s DCU figures will look like. One shows a figure of David Corenswet’s Superman posed beside Krypto, who wears a small red cape, and another shows a figure of Peacemaker in his season 2 look standing in front of a box labeled ‘Legacy Collection.’ Mattel hasn’t officially detailed either figure, so release dates, pricing and packaging are still unknown.
Mattel will be making figures from the DCU! The first figures will be David Corenswet’s Superman with Krypto and Peacemaker from season 2!

The Peacemaker figure fits other early signals. Retailer listings spotted in a German database earlier this fall named a ‘DC Ultimate Edition Peacemaker’ action figure, though those entries were not an official Mattel reveal. Collectors have noted that Mattel already uses the ‘Ultimate Edition’ name for its premium WWE figures, which could mean extra accessories and swappable parts here as well.
The Superman and Krypto pairing is a smart choice, too. Krypto, Superman’s super-powered dog, makes a natural bundle with the hero, and a cape on the pup adds some personality to the set.
Mattel has already been rolling out its DC strategy in stages. A first wave of 6.5-inch core figures, known as DC Premiere and designed primarily for kids but made with collectors in mind, has been on shelves for a few months. It includes characters such as Superman, Batman, Green Lantern and The Flash.
At New York Comic Con on Oct. 8, Mattel unveiled the next tier, the DC Legacy Collection, which is also in 6.5-inch scale. The line’s first figure is Batman from the ‘Hush’ storyline, complete with a rooftop and Bat-Signal, and other figures on display included Wonder Woman, Absolute Batman, Catwoman and build-a-figures of Mongul and Bane. A DC Ultimate Edition line, with premium figures offering more gear and articulation, is also planned.
The collector releases are set to begin Jan. 1, 2027, when Mattel plans a livestream to reveal wave line-ups, character rosters and preorder dates. Mattel’s approach mirrors its WWE playbook, with 3 main lines at 3 different price points.
The change of hands matters because McFarlane Toys has been the home of the DC Multiverse line, including figures based on James Gunn’s 2025 ‘Superman’ film such as Ultraman and Metamorpho. Hot Toys, meanwhile, released a sixth-scale Peacemaker figure inspired by John Cena’s second-season look. Mattel’s arrival gives the DCU another major toy maker at a moment when the universe is expanding.
It also arrives with strong timing. ‘Peacemaker’ season 2 premiered in August 2025, and James Gunn has called it a prequel to ‘Man of Tomorrow,’ which arrives July 9, 2027 and has already completed principal photography. Seeing Peacemaker packaged alongside Superman reinforces how closely the 2 projects are being positioned.
For DC Studios, merchandise is a critical part of building a lasting universe, particularly as the studio releases ‘Clayface’ on Oct. 23 and prepares for ‘Man of Tomorrow.’ A figure line that includes a screen-accurate Superman, Krypto and Peacemaker gives the new continuity a physical presence on store shelves, not just on screen.
The details that remain unknown are significant. Mattel hasn’t said which figures will arrive first, whether the DCU pieces will be part of the Legacy Collection or the Ultimate Edition tier, or how many characters from the films and series will get toys. Those answers should come when the January livestream pulls back the curtain.
