Maul Returns! New Star Wars Trailer Teases Sith Survivor’s Revenge – Release Date Revealed
Darth Maul is officially back, and he’s ready to strike fear across the galaxy once again. The legendary villain, who survived being cut in half by Obi-Wan Kenobi in The Phantom Menace, has returned in a brand-new animated series called Star Wars: Maul – Shadow Lord. Fans first got a tease of the project at Star Wars Celebration Japan in April 2025, but the full trailer is finally out for everyone to see, according to Disney Plus.
The story picks up about a year after the Clone Wars ended, a crucial moment when the Empire is just beginning to tighten its grip on the galaxy. “The show follows Maul as he rebuilds his criminal empire on a planet untouched by the Empire,” the official synopsis explains.
While expanding his power, Maul discovers a young, disillusioned Jedi Padawan who may become his apprentice, helping him in his relentless quest for revenge.

Dave Filoni, the creative force behind the series, has crafted this new chapter for Disney Plus. The animation team at Lucasfilm is handling the production, with Matt Michnovetz serving as head writer and Brad Rau directing.
Sam Witwer returns to voice Maul, bringing back the intensity fans loved in previous appearances. The cast also features Gideon Adlon as Devon Izara, Wagner Moura as Brander Lawson, and Richard Ayoade as Two-Boots. Some of these characters will also appear in a Marvel prequel comic book series launching this March.
The show is set to premiere on April 6. Disney Plus plans to release two episodes each week, building momentum toward the finale on May 4, which is celebrated by fans as Star Wars Day.
Fans can expect a mix of intense action, dark underworld politics, and the signature Star Wars drama that has made Maul one of the most resilient villains in the galaxy. The new series promises to explore exactly how Maul evolved from a defeated warrior into the powerful crime lord we’ve seen in previous Star Wars stories.
