McConaughey and Ferrera Brave the Blaze in Heart-Pounding ‘The Lost Bus’ Trailer
Matthew McConaughey and America Ferrera are front and center in the gripping new trailer for The Lost Bus, a survival drama based on a true story. Directed by Paul Greengrass and co-written with Brad Ingelsby, the film tells a powerful story of courage, chaos, and a desperate escape through California’s deadliest wildfire.
Inspired by the 2021 nonfiction book Paradise: One Town’s Struggle to Survive an American Wildfire by Lizzie Johnson, the movie focuses on a school bus driver and a teacher who risk everything to save a group of children as the 2018 Camp Fire tears through the town of Paradise.
McConaughey plays Kevin McCay, a man who finds himself in charge of a bus full of terrified students. America Ferrera stars as Mary Ludwig, the teacher helping him navigate through the flames. The trailer, released by Apple Original Films, shows the two racing against time as thick smoke and fire surround them.
“The Lost Bus is a white-knuckle ride through one of America’s deadliest wildfires as a wayward school bus driver and a dedicated school teacher battle to save 22 children from the terrifying inferno,” reads the official synopsis.
Joining the cast are Yul Vazquez, Ashlie Atkinson, Spencer Watson, and Danny McCarthy. The film is produced by Jamie Lee Curtis (Comet Films) and Jason Blum (Blumhouse Productions). According to reports from Variety and Deadline, filming started in April 2024 in Ruidoso, New Mexico.
Apple TV+ is set to release the film later in 2025 following its world premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival in September.
McConaughey and Ferrera’s performances promise to bring heart and urgency to a terrifying real-life event, and the trailer sets the tone for what looks like a tense and emotional journey through one of nature’s worst disasters.
