Mckenna Grace Wears Katniss’ ‘Catching Fire’ Wedding Dress Look in Paris, and ‘Hunger Games’ Fans Are Losing It
Fashion has always been a weapon in Panem, and few costumes have proved that better than the gown at the center of the Mckenna Grace Katniss wedding dress moment. The look has been making the rounds online as the franchise gears up for its next chapter. It also shows how much of the ‘Hunger Games’ legacy lives in its wardrobe.
The original dress appeared in ‘The Hunger Games: Catching Fire,’ released on November 22, 2013. Ordered by President Snow, Katniss wears a wedding gown for her televised interview, and her stylist Cinna designs it to transform into a black dress of feathers resembling a mockingjay. It became one of the most talked-about costumes in the series.
Many fans assumed the gown came from a major European fashion house. Costume designer Trish Summerville set the record straight, telling The Hollywood Reporter that “Katniss’ white gown is by a designer named Tex Saverio in Jakarta.” She added that she had saved his information for a perfectly fitting project.

On Tuesday night, October 6, Mckenna Grace stepped out at the opening of “Elegance Is Authority: The Story, Style, and Power of Panem” at Musée Rodin in Paris. The 20-year-old actress wore a white, ruffled gown that instantly recalled Katniss’ famous dress. She had teased the look in an October 5 TikTok video, posing in the gown and snapping selfies.
A post from the Film Updates account on X captioned the images “From screen to reality” and described her as wearing the iconic Katniss wedding dress. The side-by-side comparison with Jennifer Lawrence’s original look pulled in more than 962K views, with 56K likes and 5.1K reposts at the time of the screenshot.

Not exactly, and that detail matters. According to fashion coverage, Grace’s gown is an archival Monique Lhuillier piece that echoes the famous look rather than the original from the film. It was reportedly customized for the event, and the outfit has also been described as a replica of Lawrence’s dress.
The original was designed by Tex Saverio with Summerville, with layers of organza and chiffon ruffles and a sculptural metal bodice covered in Swarovski crystals. Grace’s version has a full white tulle ball gown skirt with piles of ruffles and a long, sweeping train. Its fitted corset top has an asymmetric neckline with lavender-silver beaded openwork, a sculptural piece rising from one shoulder, and soft feather touches near the waist.

Grace attended with her co-star Joseph Zada, who wore a Tiffany brooch and a suit from ERL. The event marked a splashy start to the promotional push for ‘The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping,’ which arrives in theaters on November 20. At the Paris event, the two were seen speaking while dressed in costumes from the film.
Reports note that Grace has promised plenty of fashion statements as the rollout continues. If the Paris gown is any indication, expect more nods to the franchise’s costume history.

The new film follows the 50th Hunger Games, the one Haymitch Abernathy won. Zada plays young Haymitch, while Grace plays Maysilee Donner, a tribute from District 12 and the owner of the Mockingjay pin. Francis Lawrence directs a cast that also includes Elle Fanning, Kieran Culkin, Ralph Fiennes, Glenn Close and Jesse Plemons.
The tribute works because it connects two eras of Panem. Katniss’ dress was a symbol of rebellion disguised as spectacle, and the new film dives into the origins of that same cruelty. Wearing it ahead of the prequel is a smart way to remind fans how long this story has been burning.
