Meghan Markle is making her return to acting after an eight-year break. The Duchess of Sussex, 44, was spotted on November 5 in Pasadena, California, filming her role in the upcoming Amazon MGM Studios movie Close Personal Friends.

She will appear as herself in the comedy, which also stars Brie Larson, Lily Collins, Jack Quaid, and Henry Golding. The Sun first reported the news.

An insider told PEOPLE, “Meghan was on the set today. She has a small part. She seemed very relaxed and happy. She introduced herself to everyone and was very sweet and down-to-earth.”

This marks Meghan’s first acting role since she left the TV series Suits in 2017, following her engagement to Prince Harry. According to a studio source speaking to The Sun, “This is a massive moment for Meghan and signifies a return to doing what she truly loves. She has been swamped with offers but this one felt right.”

The source added, “It is Meghan’s way of gently putting her toe back in the water and seeing how she enjoys being back on set. Everyone involved is super-excited, and have been sworn to secrecy about her involvement.”

Close Personal Friends is directed by Jason Orley and written by Isaac Aptaker. It follows a couple whose chance encounter with a celebrity pair leads to awkward situations. Alongside Meghan, the cast includes Melissa Villaseñor, Natasia Demetriou, Anna Konkle, Jack Shalloo, Patti Harrison, and Dustin Demri-Burns.

Principal photography started on September 30, with filming taking place in London and Los Angeles. A source revealed that Prince Harry is fully supportive of Meghan’s return, saying, “Prince Harry is, of course, really supportive and quite simply wants Meghan to do whatever brings her joy.”
