A fiery exchange has erupted between Megyn Kelly and Ellen DeGeneres after the comedian commented on a tragic shooting in Minnesota. The incident involved Renee Good, a 37-year-old woman who was shot and killed by federal ICE officers on January 7 during a protest. Ellen DeGeneres shared her grief on social media, but Kelly was quick to fire back.

On the January 19 episode of The Megyn Kelly Show, Kelly criticized DeGeneres for speaking out from abroad. “Ellen DeGeneres felt the need to weigh in, and I know you, like I have been asking yourself, ‘What would Ellen think of all this?'” she said. Kelly reminded viewers that DeGeneres now lives in the U.K., calling her comments hypocritical. “She’s abandoned the United States to go live in the U.K.,” Kelly said.

Kelly then attacked DeGeneres’ character, citing her alleged toxic workplace during the run of The Ellen DeGeneres Show. “She bullied people who were less powerful than she was,” Kelly claimed. She shared a story from an acquaintance with production ties, saying “She had a rule, I’m very reliably informed, that someone I knew had a sister who worked for her. You were not allowed to look her in the eye as one of her producers when you walked past her.”

Using this as context, Kelly dismissed DeGeneres’ support for the Minneapolis protesters. “And so it’s no surprise that Ellen DeGeneres is totally fine with what these so-called protesters [and] terrorist[s] in the streets of Minneapolis,” she said. Kelly called the comedian “ignorant” and accused her of believing “lies fed from CNN.” She continued, “It’s not blind ignorance, it’s willful ignorance. It suits her ideological purposes. Shame on her. Enjoy England.”

DeGeneres’ original post, made on January 18, expressed sorrow and concern over Good’s death. She also shared a statement from the victim’s wife, Becca Good, calling for justice. The shooting sparked heated debates online, with supporters of the officers claiming self-defense and critics condemning the use of lethal force.

Social media users criticized DeGeneres for not commenting on other tragedies. Many pointed out her silence regarding the death of conservative activist Charlie Kirk in the fall. “Did Charlie Kirk’s assassination make you sad and angry too?” one user asked. Others added, “You should be sad for yourself since your posts and support are selective,” demanding equal attention for all victims.

Ellen DeGeneres hosted The Ellen DeGeneres Show for nineteen seasons from 2003 to 2022, winning multiple Daytime Emmy Awards. The show ended amid reports of racism, sexual misconduct, and intimidation behind the scenes. Since then, she has largely stayed out of the spotlight, performing a stand-up special on Netflix titled Ellen’s Last Stand… Up and moving with her wife Portia de Rossi to England.

Megyn Kelly, who left Fox News and NBC, has rebuilt her career as an independent media voice. Her podcast and SiriusXM radio show, The Megyn Kelly Show, tackles politics and culture with a combative style. Kelly frequently criticizes Hollywood elitism, making high-profile celebrities like DeGeneres targets of her commentary.
