C.S. Lewis’ The Chronicles of Narnia are among the most beloved fantasy books of all time. We’ve seen the series adapted into several movies, but we also know that Netflix is currently working on a new adaptation of the franchise.

Greta Gerwig has been called in to lead the adaptation and we have reported that pre-production is currently in progress. And while we still have little to no details about the upcoming film series, the rumor mill is very much active.

According to the latest report, Hollywood legend Meryl Streep is in talks to join the franchise, which is a major piece of news!

If you were wondering whom she might be playing, it is Aslan, the franchise’s central character and an allegory of Jesus in the book series. Aslan was voiced by Liam Neeson in the original films, but it seems that Gerwig is looking to change things up.

According to the report, Aslan will be female in this series and Streep has been offered the role. If you’re looking at a gender-bender here, Meryl Streep is definitely the best choice for such a major role and her joining the cast would be a major addition.

On the other hands, changing the gender of such an important character – despite the fact that Aslan is an animal – will certainly raise some eyebrows and there will be those who are against such a decision.

Nothing has been confirmed as of yet, but the future of the film series will definitely be very, very interesting!
