Mia Goth recently spoke about her involvement in the troubled MCU Blade reboot and gave some insight into the film’s current status.

In an interview with Josh Horowitz, Goth, who was cast as the villain Lilith, admitted she doesn’t know much about the project’s future. “I mean, I don’t know what’s going on with that. I think that they want to make it,” she said.

“It’s such an important film for them, they’re taking their time with it. I really don’t have any information. I don’t know why it’s taken the time that it has. We will see.”

The actress also talked about her own role and the early plans for the film, which were set to explore Blade’s story in the 1920s. “Yeah, the furthest it got with me…I auditioned for that. I flew to Atlanta, we did a chemistry test between Mahershala and I. We did a costume fitting and a wig fitting. I was very excited for the direction it was going. It was very cool,” Goth said.

She praised her co-star Mahershala Ali, adding, “Mahershala had such an interesting take on it. It was great. And then it just unravelled from there, unfortunately.”

The Blade franchise has a long history. After New Line Cinema’s original trilogy from 1998 to 2004, Marvel Studios regained the rights to the character in 2011. By 2013, Marvel was already developing a new version.

In February 2019, Mahershala Ali, who starred as Cornell “Cottonmouth” Stokes in Marvel Television’s Luke Cage, approached Marvel about playing Blade. The role was officially announced by Kevin Feige at San Diego Comic-Con that July, with Ali even making a brief uncredited voice cameo in Eternals (2021).

Over the following years, the reboot faced multiple delays and saw several directors attached, including Bassam Tariq and Yann Demange. By June 2024, Eric Pearson was rewriting the script while Marvel searched for a new director. The film was eventually removed from the release schedule in October 2024, though it remains in development with Ali still attached.

It sounds like Blade has a lot of potential, but it’s clear the project has faced serious challenges behind the scenes. I’m curious to see if it will finally come together. What do you think? Share your thoughts in the comments.
