Sir Michael Caine made a rare public appearance with his grandchildren and Vin Diesel as he accepted a special honour at the Red Sea International Film Festival on Thursday, December 4.

The 92-year-old Oscar-winning actor received a standing ovation as he walked onto the stage. Vin Diesel, who had earlier helped Sir Michael onto the red carpet and posed for photos with him, presented the legendary actor with an honorary award. The two previously worked together on the 2015 film The Last Witch Hunter.

Speaking about his long career and family, Caine reflected, “I’ve been married for 52 years. I have loads of photographs but none are of any of the movies I am in, it’s just family, because that’s my life.”

Sir Michael officially retired from acting in 2023, announcing the decision on BBC Radio’s Today programme. He explained that roles for older actors were becoming rare, and he wanted to leave while his recent film, The Great Escaper, was receiving positive reviews.

He said, “I keep saying I’m going to retire, well I am now, because I figured, I’ve had a picture which is — I played the lead and it’s got incredible reviews. The only parts I’m liable to get now are old men, 90-year-old men, and I thought well I might as well leave with all this. I’ve got wonderful reviews. What am I going to do to beat this?”

The appearance at the festival marked a touching moment, celebrating both his incredible career and his dedication to family.
