Multiple reports circulating throughout the year have pointed to the sheer scale of that renewed interest, with data consistently showing Jackson as the most searched artist on Google in 2026 so far. The claim has been repeated across numerous music-focused accounts and outlets, placing Jackson at or near the top of the search rankings even as other major names have cycled in and out of the broader cultural conversation.
That search dominance has a clear, identifiable catalyst: the long-awaited biopic ‘Michael,’ which hit theaters in April and has continued performing remarkably well in the months since. The milestone places ‘Michael’ alongside only a small handful of films to cross the billion-dollar threshold in 2026, joining ‘The Super Mario Galaxy Movie’ as one of just two releases to do so at that point in the year.
Much of the film’s success has been tied directly to its lead performance. Jaafar Jackson, the real-life nephew of Michael Jackson and son of Jermaine Jackson, stars in the title role in what marks his feature-film acting debut, supported by a cast that includes Colman Domingo and Nia Long as his parents, Joe and Katherine Jackson. The milestone made him the first lead actor in history to debut in a role that anchored a billion-dollar box office release.
That box office success has fed directly back into the renewed search and streaming interest driving Jackson’s dominance this year. Billboard reported that in May, Jackson notched four entries in the top 50 of the Hot 100 in a single week, led by “Billie Jean” at number 17, while also placing two projects in the top 10 of the Billboard 200, with ‘Thriller’ at number 5 and his hits compilation ‘Number Ones’ at number 6.
