A new teaser for the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic, Michael, has just been released, giving fans their first glimpse at the legendary singer’s life brought to the big screen. The film is directed by Antoine Fuqua and written by John Logan, with Jackson’s nephew, Jaafar Jackson, making his acting debut as the King of Pop.

The movie chronicles Michael Jackson’s journey from his early days with the Jackson 5 through his rise as a solo superstar. The ensemble cast also includes Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Colman Domingo as Joe Jackson, Miles Teller as John Branca, Laura Harrier as Suzanne de Passe, and several actors portraying the rest of the Jackson family, along with key figures from Jackson’s career such as Diana Ross, Quincy Jones, and Berry Gordy.

Development for the biopic began in late 2019 when producer Graham King secured the rights to Michael Jackson’s life story, with John Logan set to write the script. Lionsgate announced the project in early 2022, with Fuqua confirmed as director in January 2023. Jaafar Jackson was cast that same month, and additional casting continued into 2024. Filming took place from January to May 2024, with extra photography completed in June 2025. The film is set to premiere in the United States on April 24, through Lionsgate, while Universal Pictures will handle international distribution.

The new teaser provides glimpses of Michael’s performances, family moments, and interactions with music industry figures. Jaafar Jackson’s portrayal emphasizes both the personal and professional aspects of his uncle’s life. Juliano Krue Valdi plays a young Michael, and the film also features Miles Teller in a controversial casting choice as Jackson’s entertainment lawyer, John Branca. Paris Jackson, Michael’s daughter, has publicly criticized Teller’s casting, arguing that it risks estate assets and gives Branca an outsized role in her father’s story.

The screenplay addresses both Michael’s musical genius and the allegations of child sexual abuse. Producer Graham King emphasized that the goal is to “humanize but not sanitize and present the most compelling, unbiased story.” Paris Jackson has stated that she was not involved in the production and has criticized early drafts as overly “sugar-coated,” highlighting how Hollywood biopics sometimes distort real events.

The release of the teaser has sparked renewed excitement and discussion among fans worldwide. Audiences will get to see iconic performances, behind-the-scenes drama, and intimate moments that shaped Jackson’s life.
