Michelle Monaghan (50) Stuns Alongside Robert De Niro at NYC Premiere of Netflix’s Chilling New Thriller ‘The Whisper Man’

Netflix has been steadily building a reputation for turning bestselling crime novels into star-studded prestige thrillers, and its latest project is arriving with one of the more unexpected pairings of the year. Bringing together Robert De Niro and a cast of recognizable faces from across film and television, the streamer’s newest release has spent months generating buzz well before its official debut.

That anticipation reached a new peak this week as the cast finally hit the red carpet in New York City. The premiere brought out a genuinely stacked lineup, with the film’s stars posing together for photographers ahead of what’s shaping up to be one of Netflix’s more talked-about fall releases.

Michelle Monaghan was among the standout presences on the carpet for ‘The Whisper Man,’ Netflix’s new crime thriller adaptation of Alex North’s bestselling novel of the same name. The premiere took place Aug. 24 at The Paris Theatre in New York City, where Monaghan appeared alongside co-stars Robert De Niro and Adam Scott for a run of photos before joining the rest of the cast.

Monaghan turned heads in a floor-length black gown featuring a contrasting pale pink bralette-style bodice with thin spaghetti straps, a minimalist silhouette that showed off her figure while keeping the overall look understated. She wore her hair down in loose waves, paired with a glossy pink lip and delicate earrings, rounding out a look that leaned elegant rather than flashy for the occasion.

‘The Whisper Man’ follows a widowed crime writer whose eight-year-old son is abducted after the pair relocate to the small town of Featherbank for a fresh start. Desperate for answers, he turns to his estranged father, a retired police detective, only to uncover a disturbing connection to the decades-old case of a convicted serial killer known as The Whisper Man, whose crimes are tied to an eerie playground rhyme that gives the film its unsettling hook.

De Niro leads the cast as Detective Inspector Pete Willis, with Monaghan playing Detective Amanda Beck and Adam Scott starring as Tom Kennedy, the grieving father at the center of the investigation. The ensemble also includes Michael Keaton, John Carroll Lynch, Hamish Linklater, and Owen Teague, along with Acston Luca Porto rounding out the young cast.

Notably, the film marks the first time Keaton and De Niro have shared the screen together since 1997’s ‘Jackie Brown,’ giving longtime fans of both actors a genuine reason to be excited beyond the story itself. Director James Ashcroft leads the production, working from a screenplay by Ben Jacoby and Chase Palmer, with Anthony and Joe Russo producing through their AGBO banner alongside Angela Russo-Otstot and Michael Disco.

The project has been in the works for several years, with Netflix first eyeing the adaptation back in 2022 before officially confirming it in February 2025. Given AGBO’s track record producing high-profile genre projects for the streamer, including ‘The Electric State,’ expectations for ‘The Whisper Man’ have remained high throughout its development.

With the film set to premiere on Netflix Aug. 28, the New York carpet served as one of the last major promotional beats before audiences finally get to see whether the finished product lives up to its starry cast and unsettling source material.
