Millie Bobby Brown, 22, Shares How Henry Cavill, 42, Set Clear Relationship Boundaries on Set ‘Enola Holmes’ Set
Millie Bobby Brown once opened up about her working relationship with Henry Cavill on the Enola Holmes movies. She revealed that Cavill set strict boundaries while filming because she was only 15 at the time and he wanted to keep everything professional.
In an interview with Deadline, Brown explained that Cavill had what she jokingly called “terms and conditions.” She said whenever she tried asking about his personal life, he would immediately respond, “Millie, no,” and she would answer, “Understood.” Brown said she respected him for being private and described him as naturally reserved.
She noted that her dynamic with Cavill felt more adult than the friendships she shares with her Stranger Things co-stars like Noah Schnapp and Charlie Heaton. “It’s different because I grew up with Noah and Charlie. I met them when I was 10. So, for me, it does feel like your schoolmates,” Brown said. “And with Henry, it feels like a real adult relationship. Like a really good friendship, a really healthy one. One that we have terms and conditions.”
Brown added that Cavill’s professionalism helped maintain a respectful environment on set. “He’s very strict with me, which I appreciate,” she said. She also noted that since Cavill doesn’t have siblings, their working relationship was different from what she’s used to. “I have a sister, a brother and an older brother, so I’m very much used to that kind of dynamic. I had to implement a lot of that into my relationship with Henry offscreen and onscreen and just pull him out of his comfort zone,” she explained.
Harry Bradbeer, director of Enola Holmes 2, spoke to Deadline about the chemistry between Brown and Cavill. He said their on-screen sibling relationship was playful but professional. “In a way, Henry, like Sherlock, has a very rational approach but is learning more and more to have fun and to be spontaneous. And of course, Millie and he had this very interesting, enjoyable dynamic where they’re always poking at each other,” Bradbeer said. “And Millie tickles him up a little bit and surprises him. And he goes with it.”
Bradbeer added that neither he nor Cavill has younger sisters, which may explain why they enjoyed working with someone like Brown. “Henry and I both don’t have little sisters and would’ve liked to have little sisters, which probably explains our enjoyment to working with people like Millie,” he said.
Brown’s experience shows how clear boundaries can create a safe and professional environment for younger actors. Her comments highlight the importance of respect and structure on set while still allowing for fun and natural chemistry in performances.
It’s impressive to see how Brown and Cavill balanced professionalism with playful on-screen energy. Their approach shows that strict boundaries don’t have to limit friendship or creativity. What do you think about their professional dynamic on set? Share your thoughts in the comments.
