Milly Alcock Opens Up About Landing Supergirl: ‘I Don’t Know How to Be That Person’
Milly Alcock opened up about her reaction to being cast as Supergirl in a recent interview with Forbes.
The actress said she struggled at first to believe she could take on the iconic role. “I thought, ‘What have I done?’. I really struggled to believe I could do it. I even called the director saying, ‘I don’t know how to be that person. I’m just me’. Eventually I realized the only way through was to trust myself. I always believe life is right on time. Things happen when they’re supposed to, whether you feel ready or not.”
Supergirl is an upcoming superhero film based on the DC Comics character Kara Zor-El. It will be the second film in the DC Universe and is directed by Craig Gillespie with a script by Ana Nogueira. Alcock stars as Supergirl alongside Matthias Schoenaerts, Eve Ridley, David Krumholtz, and Emily Beecham.
The story follows Supergirl as she travels across the galaxy on a dangerous quest for revenge, and the movie is produced by James Gunn and Peter Safran of DC Studios.
Plans for a Supergirl film have been in motion for years. The character first appeared in 2023’s The Flash, played by Sasha Calle. When Gunn and Safran became co-CEOs of DC Studios in October 2022, the standalone project was revised. The new film, announced in January 2023, adapts the comic miniseries Supergirl: Woman of Tomorrow by Tom King and Bilquis Evely. Ana Nogueira joined as writer in November 2023, Alcock was cast in January 2024, and Gillespie came on as director in May 2024. Filming ran from January to May of this year at Warner Bros. Studios Leavesden, London, and locations in Scotland.
Supergirl is set to be released in the United States on June 26, 2026. It will be part of DCU’s Chapter One: Gods and Monsters.
In the film, Kara Zor-El celebrates her 21st birthday by traveling across the galaxy with her dog, Krypto. During her journey, she meets a young girl named Ruthye Marye Knoll and faces a tragedy that drives her on a deadly path of revenge.
