‘Minions & Monsters’ Gets a New Look at Upcoming Adventure Ahead of Release
A new look has been released for Minions & Monsters, giving fans another early glimpse at the upcoming animated film.
Minions & Monsters is an animated comedy directed by Pierre Coffin, who also co-wrote the script with Brian Lynch. The film is produced by Illumination and distributed by Universal Pictures. It is part of the Despicable Me franchise and continues the Minions prequel series.
The story is set about 40 years before the events of Minions (2015). It follows the Minions as they travel to Old Hollywood in the 1920s, where they try to make their own monster movie. The idea mixes classic film history with the usual chaotic Minions humor.
The voice cast includes Pierre Coffin as the Minions, along with a large group of well-known actors such as Allison Janney, Christoph Waltz, Jeff Bridges, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch, Bobby Moynihan, Phil LaMarr, and Trey Parker. Waltz plays a film director, while Bridges plays a studio head.
The project was first announced in July 2024 after the release of Despicable Me 4. Coffin and Lynch returned to lead the creative work, with Chris Meledandri producing the film. Music is composed by John Powell, marking a shift in the franchise’s sound, as this is the first Despicable Me film not scored by Heitor Pereira.
Production updates confirm that the film was shown in early marketing materials, including a Super Bowl promo in February 2026 and a CinemaCon presentation in April 2026. The first official look is part of the ongoing promotional push before release.
The film is scheduled to premiere at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival on June 21, before its theatrical release in the United States on July 1.
Reports also mention a leaked audio recording from a test screening in October 2025, where an audience member secretly recorded the film and shared it online. This incident became part of early discussion around the project during its development phase.
The new look adds to growing interest in the film as it moves closer to release, with fans getting a clearer idea of its Old Hollywood setting and monster movie theme.
