“Modern Family” Star Marries Lindsay Schweitzer in Private Kansas City Ceremony
Eric Stonestreet and Lindsay Schweitzer are officially married. The Modern Family star and his longtime partner tied the knot on September 8, according to a representative who confirmed the news to PEOPLE. The couple picked the date because it falls between their birthdays.
The newlyweds shared the happy announcement on Instagram on September 9. “It’s my birthday and guess what I got,” Stonestreet, captioned photos from their wedding. In the pictures, the actor wore a fitted navy blazer and blue tie, while Schweitzer stunned in a satin gown with a crystal belt.
The ceremony took place at their dream home in Kansas City, Missouri, where they shared their first dance accompanied by musicians playing acoustic guitars.
Friends and co-stars quickly sent their congratulations. Modern Family co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson wrote, “Of all second marriages, this one is my favorite! I love you both! I’m so happy for you!!!!” Ferguson’s husband, Justin Mikita, also chimed in with “Congrats!” Actress Octavia Spencer added, “Congratulations! So happy for you both.”
Stonestreet had previously told PEOPLE that he and Schweitzer planned to get married in their Kansas City home. “Well, I’ve said we’re building a house to host a wedding, and we’re still on track to do that,” he said in July.
“We got engaged and then all of a sudden got an opportunity to build a house, and I thought, no better way to start a relationship than literally building a foundation. So that’s our plan and we’re still on track for that.”
The couple first met in June 2017 at the Big Slick charity weekend in Kansas City, just one month before it was confirmed they were dating. Stonestreet described Schweitzer as calming and grounding, telling Ellen DeGeneres, “She calms me — she calms my nerves. I’m a very high-strung person.”
After dating for more than five years, the actor proposed in August 2021. “We’ve been together for a long time and I just knew I wasn’t going to find a better partner in life than Lindsay,” he said.
“So it just made the most sense. And I’d taken my sweet old time. Everybody else — let me put it this way — that knows Lindsay was like, ‘What are you waiting for?’ So, it was time.” He added that the proposal was simple and spontaneous, saying it was “impromptu just made it a special moment for her and I.”
Stonestreet has often spoken about Schweitzer’s skills as a mother and partner. He shared that she even helped him prepare for hosting the Fox game show Domino Masters. “I asked Lindsay’s boys, who are 9. I was like, ‘Do you know much about this world?’ And they were like, ‘We watch YouTube videos on this all the time,’” he said.
He praised Schweitzer for her patience and character, calling her “just a good person and a great mom. I joke all the time that she’s uniquely qualified to be my fiancée because she can put up with me.”
Tt’s wonderful to see Stonestreet and Schweitzer finally tie the knot after years together. Their story shows how love can grow and strengthen over time, especially when building a life, and even a house together. What do you think about their wedding and love story?
