Netflix Announces ‘Demon City,’ a Live-Action Film Adaptation of ‘Oni-Goroshi’ Manga (First Look Revealed)
Netflix has announced “Demon City,” a live-action film based on the manga “Oni-Goroshi” by Masamichi Kawabe. The movie will premiere on February 27, 2025. It stars Toma Ikuta as Shuhei Sakata, a hitman out for revenge after his family is killed. Seiji Tanaka, known for “Melancholic,” directs the film.
The story follows Shuhei Sakata, who gets framed for murdering his wife and daughter by the Kimen-gumi group. After being shot in the head, he’s in a coma for 12 years. When he wakes up, he hunts down those responsible. The trailer suggests there’s more to the story, with a truth that could change everything. The film runs for 106 minutes and is produced by Digital Frontier and Amuse Inc.
The manga “Oni-Goroshi” ran from 2020 to November 2024. It’s known for its violent revenge tale and has a strong fan base. The movie tweaks the story a bit— in the manga, Sakata spends 15 years in prison, not a coma.
Toma Ikuta leads the cast, joined by Matsuya Onoe, Masahiro Higashide, Mio Tanaka, and Masanobu Takashima.
Seiji Tanaka brings his unique style to the project. His past work mixes drama, suspense, and action, which could make “Demon City” stand out. Netflix is betting big on this one, adding it to their global lineup. Action fans and manga readers alike are already talking about it online.
“Demon City” looks promising. The trailer’s intensity and Toma Ikuta’s casting are big draws. Seiji Tanaka’s direction could make it more than just another action flick. I’m curious to see how it stacks up to the manga. What do you think? Are you excited for this film, or do you have doubts? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
