Netflix Bets Big on Canada with a Chilling New Monster Show
A new drama series is coming to Netflix, set in the rugged coastal region of Newfoundland, Canada. This six-episode show follows a tough fisherman battling to save his family and town from a strange sea creature. The story blends suspense with the struggles of a community facing a fading way of life.
The series is created by Jesse McKeown, who worked on The Umbrella Academy. He teams up with writers Karen Walton, Perry Chafe, and Natty Zavitz to bring this tale to life. Chris Hatcher and Sharon Hall join McKeown as executive producers. Filming will happen in Newfoundland, showcasing its dramatic scenery and local talent.
Netflix Canada leaders Danielle Woodrow and Tara Woodbury are excited about the project. “Jesse’s bold, ambitious vision offers thrills galore, with the heart of a family drama,” they said. “We can’t wait to transport our members to coastal Newfoundland with this timely story about community, resilience and adaptability.” The show aims to grip viewers with its mix of danger and emotion.
Local officials are thrilled too. Dr. Andrew Furey, Premier of Newfoundland and Labrador, highlighted the region’s strengths. “Newfoundland and Labrador’s rich history and stunning landscapes make it the ideal canvas for a project of this magnitude,” he stated. “The province’s commitment to storytelling, talented crews, and unique beauty ensure that this series will capture the spirit of our province. We are excited to be part of bringing this incredible vision to the screen.”
Laura Churchill from Picture NL added, “Newfoundland and Labrador has long been home to incredible stories, and we’re thrilled to see Netflix bring this ambitious new series to life here.”
No release date is set yet, but production is gearing up. The series promises a fresh take on survival and strength in a remote corner of the world.
In my view, this show could be a standout for Netflix. Mixing a creepy sea monster with real human struggles feels like a smart way to hook viewers. Newfoundland’s wild beauty adds a special touch that could make it unforgettable. I’m curious if the focus will lean more on scares or family bonds—either way, it sounds like a winner.
