Netflix Confirms Director for Live-Action ‘Assassin’s Creed’ Series
Netflix has officially named a director for its upcoming live-action Assassin’s Creed series. Variety reports that Johan Renck, the Swedish filmmaker known for HBO’s Emmy-winning mini-series Chernobyl, will lead the project.
The series has already started assembling its main cast. Toby Wallace, known for Euphoria, and Lola Petticrew from Say Nothing have been confirmed as the leads. Zachary Hart of Slow Horses and Laura Marcus from Death by Lightning are also set to appear as regular characters.
Assassin’s Creed is based on the hugely popular video game franchise that revolves around time travel and secret wars. Netflix first announced the series in July. It is the first show developed under the company’s partnership with Ubisoft, which began in 2020.
Plot details are being kept secret, but the official logline describes the story as “centered on the secret war between two shadowy factions—one set on determining mankind’s future through control and manipulation, while the other fights to preserve free will. The series follows its characters across pivotal historical events as they battle to shape humanity’s destiny.”
This adaptation adds to Netflix’s growing slate of video game-based content, aiming to bring the Assassin’s Creed world to life with action, history, and intrigue.
