Netflix Drops First Full Synopsis for Upcoming Live-Action ‘Scooby-Doo’ Series
Netflix has started casting for its new live-action Scooby-Doo series, and fans are getting their first look at the actors who will play the iconic characters. The show will explore how Mystery Inc. first came together and take viewers back to the early days of the gang.
Mckenna Grace, known for The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping and Regretting You, has been cast as Daphne Blake. Tanner Hagen (The Pitt, Dark Light) will play Shaggy Rogers, while Abby Ryder Fortson (Are You There God? It’s Me Margaret, Carousel) will take on Velma Dinkley. Maxwell Jenkins (Lost in Space, The Bondsman) rounds out the main cast as Fred Jones. And of course, the beloved dog Scooby-Doo will be part of their adventures.
The story follows Shaggy and Daphne during their last summer at Camp Ruby-Spears. When they encounter a lost Great Dane puppy that may have witnessed a supernatural murder, they get pulled into a mysterious case. With Velma’s practical smarts and the arrival of Freddy, a new kid who’s strange but charming, the group tries to solve the mystery.
“During their final summer at Camp Ruby-Spears, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder. Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever-so-handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets,” the official synopsis reads.
Netflix has a history of successfully bringing fan-favorite stories to life. Shows like Wednesday, ONE PIECE, Stranger Things, and Bridgerton have all drawn huge audiences, and the streamer is hoping to do the same with Scooby-Doo.
The series will be executive produced by Josh Appelbaum, Scott Rosenberg, Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, Leigh London Redman, André Nemec, Jeff Pinkner, and Adrienne Erickson. Toby Haynes will also executive produce and direct the first episode.
This live-action series promises to give fans a closer look at how Mystery Inc. began and explore the early relationships between the characters. Netflix has not yet announced a release date, but more updates are expected in the coming months.
This is an exciting move for Scooby-Doo fans. Seeing the origins of the gang in a modern live-action series could bring a fresh perspective while keeping the charm of the original. What do you think about Netflix’s new take on Scooby-Doo? Share your thoughts in the comments.
