Netflix Drops the Full Cast for Its New Live-Action ‘Scooby-Doo’ Series
Netflix has revealed the main cast for its upcoming live-action “Scooby-Doo” series, giving fans a first look at who will play the famous mystery-solving group. The news was reported by Entertainment Tonight.
Four young actors will take on the lead roles. Mckenna Grace has been cast as Daphne Blake. Abby Ryder Fortson will play Velma Dinkley. Maxwell Jenkins is set to appear as Fred Jones, while Tanner Hagen will take on the role of Shaggy Rogers.
Grace is one of the most recognizable names in the cast. She has recently appeared in “Scream 7” and “Five Nights at Freddy’s 2.” She is also expected to show up in the new “Hunger Games” prequel, “Sunrise on the Reaping.” Many viewers may also know her from “Gifted” and the “Ghostbusters” films.
Fortson became widely known after starring in the 2023 film “Are You There God? It’s Me, Margaret.” She also played Cassie Lang in the first two “Ant-Man” movies. That role was later recast in the third film.

Jenkins has already worked with Netflix before, appearing in the reboot of “Lost in Space.” He has also been seen in “Sense8” and the movie “Arcadian.” Hagen is newer compared to the others, but he has had a role in the first season of “The Pitt.”
The series will focus on how the group first came together. Netflix describes it as a new take on the classic story. The plot follows the characters during their last summer at camp, where a strange case brings them together.
The official description says, “During their final summer at camp, old friends Shaggy and Daphne get embroiled in a haunting mystery surrounding a lonely lost Great Dane puppy that may have been a witness to a supernatural murder.”
As the story develops, Velma and Fred join in to help solve the mystery. The situation becomes more serious and personal for all of them. The description adds, “Together with the pragmatic and scientific townie, Velma, and the strange, but ever so handsome new kid, Freddy, they set out to solve the case that is pulling each of them into a creepy nightmare that threatens to expose all of their secrets.”
The show is being led by producer Greg Berlanti, who is known for several popular TV projects. This series is also a big step for the franchise, as it will be the first time “Scooby-Doo” is made into a live-action TV show.
The characters have appeared in live-action movies before. In the early 2000s, the gang was played by Freddie Prinze Jr., Sarah Michelle Gellar, Linda Cardellini, and Matthew Lillard. The franchise has also had many animated versions over the years, including classic and modern series, as well as films.
Mckenna Grace recently shared that Matthew Lillard, who previously played Shaggy, was one of the first people she told about her casting.
This new series shows that Netflix is trying to bring a fresh version of the story while keeping the core idea of the original.
This casting feels like a smart move. The mix of well-known and newer actors could help bring something fresh to the story. At the same time, fans might be curious or even unsure about a new version of such a classic. What do you think about this new cast and the idea of a live-action “Scooby-Doo” series?
