A Netflix romantic comedy starring Jennifer Lopez has shot straight to the top of global streaming charts, but it’s not the love story that viewers are talking about. Instead, audiences say one unexpected scene is the part they “will never forget.”

The film, titled Office Romance, was written by Brett Goldstein with Jennifer Lopez in mind for the lead role. It follows a successful airline executive, played by Lopez, who begins a romance with a new lawyer during a work trip. Goldstein also stars in the movie, alongside Betty Gilpin, Jodie Whittaker, Edward James Olmos, and Bradley Whitford.

The movie mixes romance and comedy in a fairly traditional way at first. Lopez’s character, Jackie, becomes involved with Goldstein’s character Daniel, and the story initially focuses on workplace dynamics and personal relationships. However, attention quickly shifted once audiences reached a far more intense moment in the film.

The scene that sparked widespread reaction shows Sydney, played by Betty Gilpin, giving birth on an office table while still at work. The moment comes after her character continues working through the final stages of pregnancy, refusing to slow down despite clear signs that labour is beginning.

In the film, Jackie and Daniel end up helping Sydney during the delivery, turning the office setting into an improvised maternity space. The sequence is shown in detail, which surprised many viewers expecting a light romantic comedy rather than a more graphic medical moment.

Betty Gilpin later spoke about filming the scene in an interview with Variety. She described her initial reaction to the set and props, saying, “I was pretty scared when I first saw the prosthetic setup. I had a bit of a breakdown, then I thought, well, Jennifer Lopez is here, so what could go wrong?”

She also explained how the production worked technically. Gilpin said her real legs were hidden under the desk while prosthetics were used for the visible parts of the scene. A puppeteer controlled a fake baby and other practical effects during filming.

“A puppeteer was under the table moving the baby through the prosthetics, and there were all these sounds and movements. It felt completely unreal,” she said. Gilpin added that resetting the scene was especially unusual, since the crew had to manually reset the prosthetics and props each time.

After the film was released on Netflix, viewers quickly took to social media to share their reactions. Some said the scene stayed with them long after watching. One Reddit user wrote, “I can’t get it out of my head.” Another viewer said they were surprised by how intense the moment was in a romantic comedy.

Not all reactions were negative, though. Some viewers argued that childbirth is a natural part of life and should not be considered shocking. One comment read, “People are overreacting. It’s just birth. I expected something worse.”

Despite the debate, Office Romance has become one of Netflix’s most-watched titles since its release. According to streaming data trends reported by entertainment outlets, the film’s mix of romance, comedy, and an unexpected dramatic scene has helped it gain strong global attention.

Whether viewers remember it as a simple love story or for its unforgettable birth scene, the film has clearly made an impact far beyond what many expected from a standard romantic comedy.
