Netflix Is Losing Three Major ‘Walking Dead’ Shows This August—Here’s What You Need to Know
If you’re a fan of The Walking Dead world, there’s some tough news. On August 19, Netflix will remove three popular shows from its collection. All eight seasons of Fear the Walking Dead will leave the platform, along with Season 1 of The Walking Dead: Daryl Dixon and the only season so far of The Walking Dead: The Ones Who Live.
It’s not completely clear why these shows are being taken off Netflix, but it looks like the streaming service’s deal with AMC might have ended. Other AMC shows like Dark Winds, Interview with the Vampire, and Mayfair Witches are also leaving Netflix. Oddly enough, The Walking Dead: Dead City isn’t part of this group and will stay available on Netflix for now.
Netflix has been a second home for these zombie stories since January, when the spin-offs first arrived on the streamer. Both new viewers and longtime fans loved watching these shows, based on Robert Kirkman’s comic books, come to life. All three shows did well, making it into Netflix’s Top 10. Even though they are leaving Netflix, you can still watch them on AMC’s own streaming service, AMC+.
At San Diego Comic-Con last weekend, there was some big news about what’s next for The Walking Dead. Norman Reedus’ character, Daryl Dixon, got his spin-off show renewed for a fourth and final season. With Season 3 coming soon, fans can expect the story to build toward a big ending. Melissa McBride will also return as Carol, Daryl’s longtime friend.
Jeffrey Dean Morgan and Lauren Cohan’s show, The Walking Dead: Dead City, was also renewed for a third season. This show follows a tense story of friends becoming enemies in New York City. Another spin-off, The Ones Who Live, was created after the main series ended. It follows Rick (Andrew Lincoln) and Michonne (Danai Gurira) trying to find each other again. Scott M. Gimple, the head of the franchise, said the miniseries might get a second season someday, saying, “there’s a chance it could come back.”
So, if you want to catch Fear the Walking Dead, Daryl Dixon, or The Ones Who Live on Netflix, make sure to watch them before they disappear on August 19.
